My condolences to all of you.  I was very fortunate to know Aunt Shirley and see her at holidays at my mom's house before she moved to Florida.  I will never forget the special bond my grandma (her sister Betty) and her had. Hi, Grandma it's me Pat – I have been thinking a lot about you and all of the wonderful memories we have and it hit me hard last night that we will no longer be able to make memories it hit me that you're gone.

Last night at work was really hard I had a lady who reminded me of you she was so cute just like you but she passed last night with no family by her side just me and a few other employees and it was all so real to me at that moment.  

I know everyone grieves in there own way and there own time and no matter how prepared and strong you think you are your not.  So last night when she passed I took it hard all I could picture was you – my wonderful loving Grandma laying there with her soul on its way to heaven.

When I left work last night, I sat in my car for a little while asking you to come to me and as I sat there, I thought about all the times we spent together good and bad.

 I remembered driving in a storm to come to you because the tornado sirens were going off and you were scared I remember sitting in the bath tube at mom's with you hiding from that tornado along with many other memories and some I laughed at and others I cried.

 When I left, the parking lot I asked God to let you please come to me one last time give me a sign you were there even if it was only for a minute but there was nothing.

When I pulled down my street last night 40 minutes later a song came on the radio it was your song it was the last song I played to you before you passed away and all I could do is cry – I knew at that moment you heard me and you were with me!

Grandma I will miss you so much I will miss our funny talks and the love you have always shown me no matter what I did wrong in my life you have always just loved me for me.

For now, I will have my tears and pain I will mourn you each day and think of all your memories of us, for now I will let my heart break because you will be deeply missed and for now I will just take this all one day at a time.

Grandma run, play, tell silly jokes, and just be happy and in time, I will be able to celebrate with you I will celebrate and share all of the wonderful memories I have of you.

I will remind my daughters of there Great Grandma and all of her wonderful traits and I will smile again when I think of the women who put a smile on my face for 42 years.

You will be missed Grandma each and everyday but I know in time it will be okay.

EULOGY - 

When I was growing up, I didn't see grandma but maybe once a year at Christmas. It wasn't until she moved to Florida that I really got to know the woman I call Grandma. She was a soft spoken woman. To most people she was quiet and reserved. But once you really go to know her, you saw beyond that exterior.

Grandma was a dear sweet woman with a personality that tops all others. She lived life to the fullest. Sometimes she would come up with things that would crack me up laughing. Sometimes it was just because you wouldn't expect her to say those things.

While she was living with mom, there came a time when mom was instructed to take some time to herself. Debbie and I would take turns spending Saturday with Grandma so mom could get out of the house. I'd come over loaded up with my nail polishes. Gram would be so excited to get a manicure.She'd even call me the night before to make sure I don't forget to bring the nail polish. Having lunch together and spending that time with her will always be held close tomy heart. Her favorite lunch that we had together was mashed potatoes and gravy and a good loaf of bread.

When mom passed away three years ago, I thought we would lose grandma too. But she was tough and kept going. She came back strong. I feel so blessed to have had these past three years with grandma. I learned so much from her.

She's funny and thoughtful. Always thinking of others before herself. She's sweet and kind and sassy too. One person described her as a drama queen. So true, the way she'd carry on when you gave her something special. She would just ooh and ahh. Her sarcasm was the funniest thing to hear from the mouth of that sweet little old woman. She could definitely hold her own. My friends say that now they know where I get my sassiness from.

The best thing Grandma ever did was move to Florida. Not just because I had her in my life, but because of all the people she brought with her. Because of Grandma, I now have so many more of my family in my life. I was able to reconnect with aunts, uncles and cousins that I haven't seen or spoken to since I was a child. For all this I am truly blessed.

Grandma had become like a mother to me. Taking care of her these past few years has been an honor and I enjoyed each and every second of it.

She touched so many lives. Everyone who took care of her at Shell Point loved her. People who I didn't even know came up to me to express their sorrow of her passing. She will truly be missed down here on earth. But we all know she is in a much better place now. She is with mom and her mother and all others who passed before her. But most importantly, she is with God in Heaven. She no longer has those aches and pains. She is walking tall and sure. She can now sing with the Angels.

It is not her that we cry for, but for ourselves, as we will no longer be able to hug and kiss her, or catch those kisses that she blows to us as we leave.

I found a poem that says it all, the author is unknown. It says everything I want to say. If I could put my words into poetry, this is what I would say...

Dear "Grandma", I never had the pleasure of meeting you but I feel that I knew you from hearing Deb talk so dearly about you.  Unfortunately, my trip to Florida was too late, but I know we will meet someday on the other side.  Thank you for taking Deb under your wing and being the Grandma she never knew from our family, you will be deeply missed by Deb and Mark.  I wish you everlasting peace.  Give Charlie a hug from us all.

Hi Mom, Right from the very beginning you made me feel like one of the family. When my mom passed away I took you as my mom. You treated me like a son. We had good times together that I will never forget. You were always making that funny face at me with your fist going back and forth. I teased you and you always came back teasing me. I loved it. My Dear Chris, Just know that she is with you, watching over you with a love that will last forever. Just think about how great it must be for her to be with your Mother and other family and friends that have already passed. Also you have gained another Angel to watch over you and your family.

Oh Grandma, I don't even know what to say. There is so much in my heart, I don't know where to start. The barbecues we had, the dinners we had, the days I was able to stay with you and grandpa at your apartment. I am so grateful that I was able to come and spend two weeks with you the end of October 08. I loved everyday - every minute we had together. Remember when we were setting up your apartment at Kings Crown? I even enjoyed doing that. I am grateful to my fellow employees and my boss for sending me to Florida for my Birthday this year and me being able to come visit you. There are so many things in my heart that I am having a hard time writing this. I  love you Grandma and always will. Little did I know that when I was there for my Birthday that that would be my last visit with you.

Great Grandma, when you moved away i missed you. I remember going to your apartment and Grandpa making his mexican stew and because I only liked chicken he told me that they were chicken tacco's. Then I like them and ate them. I remember that cool wooden rocker you had and I could rock hard and go all the way across the room til mom made me stop. We had some cool barbecues and dinners at grandma's house and you and grandpa would come. I have some good memories of things that we did. Thank you Great Grandma for being my Great Grandma. I will miss you.

great grandma i was just a baby when you moved away so i never had a chance to know you. my mom showed me pictures and told me all about you. i wish i had gotten to know you. you sound wonderful. even though i didn't know you i love you anyway from what mom told me.

Great Grandma was a wonderful Woman. She had the best sense of humor that would just keep us laughing and laughing. She was always happy and boy would it rub off on you! Having Grandma in our lives has truly been a blessing. She had the greatest sense of humor, and a warm smile. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She touched so many lives these past years. We will miss her dearly. Until we see you again Grandma.... we love you.

We were blessed to be part of Grandma's last years. I'm so glad she blessed us with her love, sense of humor and sense of family. My only regret is that we didn't have her for a longer period. We cherished every moment and will have memories to last a lifetime.

I only knew Shirley through her grandson, Mike.  I know she was a very special woman just by the way Mike loved and cared for her.  She had always been there for him and there was never any question that she meant the world to him.  I was always grateful to her for letting Mike and my son Joe continue to spend time together when they were growing up, forging the close friendship that remains to this day.  

I pray that you will all find peace and comfort in the days to come, sharing warm thoughts and memories of a life well lived.   She was certainly blessed to have such a caring family.
