Richard “Rico” Florka, 79, passed away July 7, 2023 after a long illness. Rico was preceded in death by his wife Donna Florka, his daughter, Sherri Betz and his parents Stanley and Agnes Florka. Rico is survived by his daughters, Yvette Taubel, Yvonne Webster, and Robyn Wilson (John), his sister Felicia Healy (James), his brothers James Florka (Janet) and Frederick Florka (Paula) and his granddaughters, Nicole Webster, Skyler Gideon, Paulette Stadelmann (Richard), Carah Skylar Gedeon, and Lyndzie Webster. Rico was survived by several nieces and nephews.
Rico was born in East Detroit, Michigan and raised his family in Romeo, Michigan. He moved to Dunedin, Florida in 1983 and Fort Myers, Florida in 1989. Richard worked for Anderson, Eckstein and Westrick Civil Engineering and Associates for 20 years building roads and bridges. When Richard moved to Fort Myers, Florida he was credited for engineering the completion of St. Charles Harbor Yacht Club and retired his career working for the Department of Community Development for Lee County, Florida.
Rico enjoyed spending time with his family, capturing special moments with his camera, and making people laugh. He loved classic cars and beautiful women equally. He enjoyed hosting poker parties with his friends, golfing occasionally and playing softball in his younger years.
In his later years, Rico loved spending time in his yard and watching the History channel especially shows about aliens. He had a great sense of humor and was loved by everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
