Orlando Ugo Smerillo, 95, passed peacefully on May 30, 2017 surrounded by his family. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 9, 1921 to John and Filomina Smerillo he is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Agnes Smerillo, children: Elaine Smerillo Hawkins (Fred Hawkins), Glenn Smerillo, grandchildren: Michael Ciccarello (Renee Ciccarello, great grandchild, Chandler Ciccarello), David Ciccarello (Katy Ciccarello, great grandchildren, Landry Ciccarello and Reed Ciccarello), step grandchildren: Amanda Hawkins Femal (Nick Femal, son, Alaster Femal), Ryan Hawkins (Madeline Hawkins) and Phillip Ciccarello and many nieces and nephews. Orlando served in the Navy during World War II stationed in Jacksonville, FL and the Aluetian Islands, AK. He graduated from Fenn College in Cleveland, Ohio majoring in electrical engineering. He attained his Professional Engineer designation and worked for Westinghouse Electric and Bethlehem Steel designing hot strip mills throughout the United States. He and his wife, Agnes, lived in Buffalo, NY, Pittsburgh, PA, and Michigan City, IN during his career. They retired to Fort Myers, FL in 1987 to be near their grandsons. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather devoted to his family and missed by all. A visitation will be held at Hodges-Kiser Funeral home, 9231 Cypress Lake Dr, Fort Myers, on Wednesday, June 7th, from 1:00 -2:00 PM with a service beginning at 2:00 PM. Orlando will be laid to rest at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens. A celebration of his life will be at the home of Fred and Elaine Hawkins.
