Opal D. Brown, born Opal D. Washington on October 27, 1925, in Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2014 at the age of 88. Opal was a long-time resident of Annapolis, MD, daughter of Clarence and Naomi Washington. She had been living in Fort Myers, FL for the past 29 years with Charles W. Brown, her husband of 64 years who predeceased her in 2008. Opal was a dedicated member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Annapolis, MD where she loved singing in the choir; and a member of Gateway Grace Fellowship, a Southern Baptist Church in Fort Myers, FL.
Opal worked her entire career for The Tilghman Company on State Circle in Annapolis and retired with Charlie in Florida.
Opal is survived by her six children; Charles, Robert, Thomas, Susan, Jane and Kathy and their spouses; three brothers; Paul, Billy and Jimmy and four sisters; Betty, Peggy, Martha and Dottie. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren; Creg, Wendy, Rebecca, Megan, Allen, Michelle, Stephen, Elizabeth, Alissa, Stacey, Jenny and their spouses. Opal will also be lovingly remembered by her seventeen great-grandchildren; Courtney, Lacey, G.R., Amanda, Joey, Caleb, Brooke, Katelynn, Brandon, Bradley, Andrew, Conner, Breanna, Charlotte, Lylah, Leah, and Lily; and, one great-great grandchild, Bailey.
Opal was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Sell, two brothers, C.M. Washington and George Washington, and two grandsons, Christopher Brown and Thomas A. Brown, Jr.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 25th from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 26th from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and again Thursday, February 27th from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 27th at the Hodges Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow the service at Lee Memorial Park.(www.leememorialpark.com)
