Nancy Townsend Windsor was a loving mother and grandmother and spirited woman whose sense of humor never faded even as her life was ending. She was born in Baltimore, Md., to blue-collar parents and grew up in Cambridge, Md. An only child, she enjoyed going to the movies as a young girl and was a fan of singing cowboy Gene Autry. She fondly recalled eating mint sno-balls and going to the Hippodrome and other fancy theaters when visiting her family in Baltimore. She married her high school sweetheart in 1954. Her marriage ended in divorce in 1968 but produced twin sons she loved dearly. In the 1970s she worked in local government and was active in politics as a proponent of women’s liberation and charter home rule. In 1974 she ran for office in Harford County, Md.; characterized as the “ballot box beauty,” she fell short in the race for registrar of wills. She moved on to the private sector, successfully managing a large number of photo kiosks before opening up her own sub and pizza shop, Town Takeaway, in Joppa, Md., in 1980. After her sons went to college in Florida, she moved to Fort Myers. Working as an office manager at Kiser Funeral Home, she made new friends and settled into life as a spunky septuagenarian and beloved grandma who doted on her four grandchildren. Before she died Easter Sunday, she was comforted in her belief that she would join the Lord in Heaven. She left us peacefully at about 9 p.m., surrounded by loved ones and listening to Willie Nelson, whom she adored, singing "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" and "Always on My Mind." She is sorely missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two sons and their families -- Brad, wife Louise and sons Noah and Shane; and Todd, wife Beth and daughters Jayme and Shelby -- and many dear friends. In lieu of flowers memorial contributons may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle Ft. Myers, FL 33908 Attn: Development Office.
