Mary Ann Poss, 91, of Ft. Myers, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by her children, grandchildren and sister after battling COPD, November 13, 2022. Mary Ann was born on November 13, 1931 in Nashville, KS, the daughter of late William and Anna Molitor; she was the second eldest of nine. Mary Ann was the loving wife of the late Deacon Harold Poss for 62 years. She was a devoted mother to her children, William Poss, Cynthia Foley, Robert Poss, Linda (Gary) Vadnais and Michael (Sara) Poss. She was a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren: Julie (David) Kramer, Matthew (Victoria) Poss, Cassandra Foley, William (Holly) Poss, Sean (Sofie) Foley, Michael (Stephanie) Vadnais, Kathleen (Ramez) Vadnais-Hassan, Mary Jane Poss and Anna Poss. She was a loving great grandmother to eight great-grandchildren.
Mary Ann is survived by her siblings, Richard (Angela) Molitor, Kathryn Ewertz, Clarice Hannah, Joan (Craig) Plassmyer, June Thome, James (Lucinda) Molitor and Diane (Tom) Clarisse. She was preceded in death by her brother William (Jan) Molitor, Jr. Mary Ann leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary Ann grew up working on the family farm near Willowdale, KS. After high school, she moved to Aurora, IL and worked at the Burlington Railroad. She met her husband, Harold Poss, a lifetime resident of Aurora and they married in May of 1952. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University in 1979 at the age of 47 and worked as a Registered Nurse for 36 years, until the age of 83.
After retirement in 2015, she moved to Cypress Cove Senior Complex in Ft. Myers, FL. Mary Ann made many friends at Cypress Cove, and learned to play Mahjong, new Card Games, Rummikub, Bocce Ball and loved to gamble with the poker group at Cypress Cove. She volunteered time to sew hats for children undergoing surgery at the Golisano Children’s Hospital, crocheted mats for the needy, and visited the sick at Cypress Cove.
Mary Ann and her late husband, Harold were able to travel with family and friends the world including, two trips to Medjugorje, China, Europe, Japan, Hawaii and many more. They also cruised the Caribbean, Alaska, and through the Panama Canal.
Mary Ann will always be remembered for her strong work ethic, nursing skills, gamesmanship, determination, friendship, and open willingness. She was always ready to help in moments of need. Mary Ann was a faithful Catholic. She will be forever in our hearts.
