Marilyn Jean (Hagen) Pohlman was born August 12, 1951 in Marengo, IA, the daughter of Merlin and Selma (Doehrmann) Hagen. She graduated from Benton Community High School in 1969. On September 12, 1970, she was united in marriage to Larry Edward Pohlman at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown, Iowa. Marilyn and Larry raised their three sons on a farm outside of Blairstown. Marilyn's many jobs included farm wife, homemaker, teacher's aide, and wedding and prom dress sales person. She became a realtor with Coldwell Banker upon moving to Cedar Rapids in 2000. Marilyn enjoyed 10 years of retirement on the beautiful beaches of Fort Myers, FL. Marilyn loved the water, sun, and sand. She and Larry took many trips to the Caribbean with St Marten being their favorite destination. Marilyn also traveled to Egypt.
Marilyn had a beautiful smile that she shared with everyone. With her positive personality and ability to find the joy or the silver lining in any situation she set a great example for how to live. She was a strong supporter of her sons and grandchildren in anything they chose to pursue. Marilyn was an excellent hostess and cook who loved to entertain her wide circle of friends. Marilyn was an advocate for children's causes including education and research into childhood diseases.
Marilyn died Monday June 1, 2020 following a long illness. Surviving are her husband Larry; sister Nancy Landuyt; 3 sons Brian, Brad (Amy), and Aaron (Julene); 5 grandchildren Lillian, Sophia, Caroline, Alyssa and Benjamin; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 11th at 10:30 am at Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, FL. Memorials may be sent to Golisano Children's Hospital, St Jude Children's Research Hospital, Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, the University of Iowa Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or directly to the family.
