Lewis Johnson, 82, of Lehigh Acres, FL, passed away on November 15, 2023, after a long illness, at his residence in Fountain Crest Retirement Community. Lewis was born on January 31, 1941 to Mary Louise Alexander and Donald Earl Johnson in Charleston, WV. After Lewis graduated from East Bank High School in 1958, he attended West Virginia Tech and then joined the United States Air Force. After his discharge in 1965, he returned to East Bank and worked for American Electric Power, Kanawha River Plant, as maintenance superintendent in Glascow, WV, until his retirement in 2001. Along with his job at AEP, Lewis reenlisted in the West Virginia Air National Guard and served as a flight engineer. During his enlistment, he was last deployed during Operation Desert Storm/Gulf War.
In 1963, he met Beatrice Summers in East Bank, WV, while he was home on leave and they married in Milton, WV, on August 14, 1965. Lewis and Beatrice went on to have two sons and resided in East Bank, WV, until 2003 when they moved to Lehigh Acres, FL. Lewis was passionate about golf and spent almost every day after his retirement on the golf course.
During his lifetime, Lewis was a member of East Bank United Methodist Church and was Past Master of the Chelyan Masonic Lodge #158, in Chelyan, WV.
Lewis was predeceased by his father, Donald Johnson and mother, Mary Alexander and his aunts, Pearl Pryor and Rosalea Poland.
He is survived by wife, Beatrice, and son, Charles (Joey) of Waxhaw, NC, and Todd (Stacey) of Afton, VA. He was blessed with seven grandchildren: Alexandria, Coleman, Olivia, Tate, Camden, Ivy, and Bennett. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Gollihue of Nashua, NH, and her children Bill, Lisa and John, and his special cousin, Ann (Loren) Moberg of Oldsmar, FL and sons, Andrew and Nathan.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the VITAS Hospice Care Team, Dr. Michael Tucker with the Millennium Physicians Group, and the Mayo Clinic Liver Transplant Team for their care and support.
Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park, Fort Myers, FL, is in charge of cremation.
