John was a wonderful man who spent his life helping others better themselves. He was always there for all his friends and always made everyone laugh. It was an honor to know him. Rest in peace brother.

It's been a week and I still haven't really processed that John is gone.  I've been thinking all this time that I want to write something special but I just can't come up with something to sum up how I feel or describe the hole that he's left behind in our lives.

John met my mom while I was at college at OU.  I think when I came home from school for my first Christmas break he was there and he's been here ever since.  He was always there for a home cooked meal on Sunday afternoon when I came home to do laundry and take a nap on the couch.  He made this delicious baked potato topping that he said was his families secret recipe (does anyone else know how to make it??) and he loved to make steaks on the grill.  Every year I agonized over what to get him for his birthday and Christmas.  His hobbies centered around cooking, the Cowboys and Buckeyes.  Since that's what he liked, thats what I bought.  Every.single.year.  That might be why he has 11 Cowboys jerseys, Cowboys floor mats in his car and an entire wardrobe of Buckeyes clothes. 
   The only thing he liked more than cooking was eating.  In fact, when I was in labor with my first child he and my mom ate all of my post child birth snacks.  Here I was doing all the work and they were watching Oprah and eating Cheese-Its.  lol
      When he and my mom decided to move to Florida I had never seen someone more excited. He posted to FB as they made the rounds of all the places in OH they went to for the "last" time.  I'm happy he was able to live his final months in  paradise.  He touched many lives.  Even the bank teller cried when she learned of his passing. 

Thanks for the memories John. The world won't be the same without you.  Love and miss you. Until we meet again

Our Grampy John was certainly a one of a kind. He can be described by a certain amount of quirks and habits and patterns because there are these things that he just always did. This makes it a lot easier to remember him. Growing up Gram and Gramps always did a lots of things with us grandkids. I have so many memories of going to the zoo and to COSI and parks and picnics and Grampy John and he ALWAYS had this gigantic jug of water. Like, no matter what. Whether it was that 100 degree sunny summer day at the zoo or a snowed in trip to COSI he always had this JUG of water. It's iconic. And also way too big to carry around to everything but  we were literally never thirsty because he always had this water. 

When we were staying over at Gram and Gramps we would always do something super cool and fun like going to the zoo or COSI but there are also little things that stick out and mean a lot to us. Like, whenever we were over we would make a stop with Gram and Gramps at the drive-thru carryout mart (my mom says she knows what it's called, I definitely do not) and we were allowed to pick out whatever couple of bags of chips we wanted. For us, that was like freakin' Christmas. Gramps would always let is have diet Mountain Dew and chips and take us to our favorite park. One we called the "spinny park". I literally do not know what park this is, or if it is a really skinny park or what, but we would go and we would spin! And Gram and Gramps would spin us for hours on end and this ALSO was better than Christmas. And only after we were truly "spinned out" would we return to their hour and fill back up on Diet Mountain Dew and our chips.
 Experiences like these are a  pinnacle of our childhood and I cannot imagine life without these memories. Gramps is going to be missed but we are so happy that we got the time that we did. He made life and our childhood very magical and we love and miss him a lot.

I went to Grade, Jr. High and High School with John.  He was fun, and very smart.  I will miss him.

John, thanks for being such a wonderful care loving neighbor and friend. Unfortunately rare in today’s world but not with you and Sue. You were always kind and willing to talk. We will truly miss you and so sorry for your loss. I’m glad we had a chance to connect. Thanks for always wishing me a safe trip. Let’s go Cowboys!! (From a Eagles Fan) 

John was a neighbor and classmate and we remained friends  from elementary school all the way throughout high school.  So friendly with a great sense of humor always there to make you laugh.    Sending thoughts and prayers to his family.  

Sue, I remember when John came into your life.  I remember him as always happy and cracking jokes.  Your family has always felt like my family, too.  John was always welcoming, ready with a hug and a smile whenever I saw him.  We spent many Memorial Day weekends camping together - remember that great tent that attached to your car?  
I cannot imagine the pain that you must be feeling right now, but I hope you will someday be able to take comfort in the love  and happy memories that you and John shared.  He was a very special man to all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.

I still haven’t quite found the words I’m looking for, but I love you so much and I hope you found peace.  No matter how bad I ever felt you were always there telling me you were proud of me, you loved me, and that things would get better.  I always knew whenever I’d come home I’d be met with hugs, laughs, a warm meal, and inevitably a lesson on current politics 😂.  I’m really gonna miss you gramps, hope I can make you proud.

Though it has been many years since I have seen John, back in my younger days/college years, as a close friend of his step daughter Kim, I spent a quite a bit time with him and the Myer clan. He was always so nice, friendly, laid back, easy to talk to (which means a lot coming from an introvert), fun & funny.  But what I remember most is what a perfect and special couple he and Sue made and what a wonderful stepfather he was to my dear friend. He will be missed by many. Much love and prayers during this difficult time ❤️

My baby brother. Your legal name was John but I called you "Luigi". I will always remember you for your loving and generous heart. You lived life to the fullest. I am so grateful you got to have some time in the sun! I think God called you home so you and Georgia could cook for the angels! Be at peace Luigi. I will miss you!

While our time to know each other was too short, you have left a lasting impression on my life. Right from the start you were generous and welcoming to our new development and I appreciate your kindness toward me.

 I can remember mine and Angie’s lunch  hours we would come to the house to eat and jump on the trampoline. Or our camping trips when Angie and I would stay up so late and you were trying to sleep (you would let us know from the tent!) . Thank you for always making me feel like family and always being there when I would come back to visit with a hug and a good  to see you!  ❤️


We were very shocked to hear about John.  He will be missed by his friends and family.   Many prayers are with his family during this time of need. We will always have fond memories of Sue and John.

This is not going to be your typical tribute post. As a kid, I was obsessed with Alf. I don’t know why really, but I thought he was hilarious and I would watch every episode and had stuffed Alf dolls and a lunchbox and whatever else kind of paraphernalia. I slept with my Alf dolls every night. Once, we were visiting Ohio and my Uncle John had one that talked like this one (mine is still in my possession and in my storage at the moment) and he gave it to me. I don’t know why this happened. Maybe he knew how much I loved him and would enjoy it? Maybe he bought it for me? I really don’t know because I was really young when this happened. My dad took the talk box out of it shortly after because it was annoying to hear him talk when I was sleeping I guess? I don’t know. (My parents or sisters might be able to give more facts to this story.) My Uncle John was someone I enjoyed talking to because he seemed like a big kid and in a world where I often was too shy to say anything, he always included me. He had a weird love for the Cowboys (can anyone explain this?) so for a while I was a Cowboys fan even though I really didn’t care about them or any other NFL team.

My Uncle passed away on Sunday and I’m not really sure how I feel at this point. It’s still a shock and I’m still not entirely sure it’s real. I, unfortunately, can’t make it to the funeral. So here’s my thoughts about my Uncle and how I hope he is enjoying a few beers with Grandpa, Grandma and Aunt Georgia. We’ll miss you. Alf says “Hello” and wants me to thank you for giving him a friend too.

My prayers are with you Sue. John was a good guy and I have a lot of good memories through the many years that I've known the two of you. 

  My mom and John started dating when I was fifteen years old. I gave the poor guy a run for his money!  Thank god he stuck around through it all.  He loved my mom deeply and always kept us laughing with his quick witted humor. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten!❤️

    It seems like yesterday,Bobbie and I pulled into the driveway next to your house here in Columbus. You walked up and asked if we were going to buy it.  
    You and Sue were our neighbors for over 10 years, one of the best anyone could of ever asked for.  We were so sad when you told us you were retiring and moving down to Fla.  
      I feel so sad now that I won’t be able to talk to you on the phone anymore. Your laugh and joking around will be missed deeply. The world will be a little darker now that your light of life is gone. 
      Bless you my friend,May god hold you and comfort your soul in his arms.
