Joel Edward Aron was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1928 to a close family. He had a younger sister Florence and was raised in Forest Hills, Queens. Married to the love of his life, Eve, for 59 years, their retirement years were spent in Fort Myers, Florida, at Pelican Preserve and Shell Point Retirement Communities.
Joel received his B.S from Queens College, part of City College, with a major in chemistry and psychology. He later attended Columbia University and earned a Master’s in Industrial Psychology, then continued his studies at New York University.
Joel had more than 45 years of experience in the business world working as a career management consultant, psychologist and entrepreneur. He enjoyed helping people find their career paths and interests, and taught courses in personnel interviewing and performance management. Joel retired as Senior Vice President of Right Management Consultants in NYC, and was previously the founder and Executive VP of Personnel Data Systems, then Thinc Consulting Group International. All specializing in the use of psychological tests to select key personnel, Joel received numerous awards in his field and was listed in Who’s Who in 1981. For years he worked 3 jobs while his 3 children were attending colleges, teaching at NYU in the evenings, corporate work during the week, and a home business on weekends.
Helping people, staying active in sports (Golf being his ultimate favorite) and spending time with family were his passions. He loved Chess and Fencing as a college student, but Golf was always top of the list. A day before he died, he was talking in his sleep about which golf club to use.
Participating in volunteer work was always part of Joel’s life. He helped handicapped people find employment, and convinced our Rye, NY Mayor to change sidewalks for ease of use for wheelchairs before there was a law mandated. He advocated that Rye Golf Club, a public course, should allow women to play equally with men on weekend mornings.
A founding member of Chavurat Tikvah in 1976, he formed many close relationships in this small NY synagogue and made lifelong friends. Later in retirement, he served as President of the Condo Alliance Association at Pelican Preserve and enjoyed Inquiring Minds at Shellpoint, and services at Community Free Synagogue in Fort Myers.
He was honest, compassionate and truly cared about people, especially his family: Children Jennifer, Josh and Eric, grandchildren Emma and Jacob, son in law Brennan, his sister Florence and niece Laurie (spouse, Les) nephew Jimmy (spouse, Wendi), nieces Linda (spouse, Ed) and Diane (spouse, Peter), cousins Joel and Janet Winegarden and all their dear children: Barrie, Nikki, Rex, Rachel, Maya, Lance, Julia, Wayne, Ellin, Linda, Isaac, Ashley, Brandon.
