Jo Walsh Lane, 89, a resident of The Cottage at Cypress Cove, Ft. Myers, Fla., formerly of Sanibel Island, Fla. and Sagamore Beach, Mass., died peacefully on May 12, 2021. She was born on April 13, 1932 in Wilkes County, N.C., the fourth of seven children, born April 13, 1932, in Wilkes County to the late Robert Lee Walsh, Sr. and Estelle Jones Walsh. .
Mrs. LaneJo was predeceasedceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Robert Lowell Lane,; and her sisters, Corrine W. (Connie) Michael and Rosetta Mae (Tink) Sebastian. She is survived by her two children, Barbara Lane. Allin of Burke, Va., and Scott Robert. Lane, and his wife Caroline, of Chatham, Mass., and S. Lane, and also leaves her three grandchildren, Shannon L. Barnett, and her husband Christopher Barnett, , Grady Allin and Elizabeth Walsh Lane, and N. Grady Allin, all of whom she loved dearly.
She is also survived by two brothers, Robert L. Walsh, Jr. and, and Z. ThomasTommy Walsh, and his wife, Nancy,; and two sisters, Lea W. Barnes, and Bobbie Ann W. Tulburt, all of N.C.,; and several nieces and nephews., nephews, and friends, her two children, Barbara L. Allin, Scott R. Lane and his wife Caroline S. Lane, and also leaves her three grandchildren, Shannon L. Barnett and her husband Christopher Barnett, Grady Allin and Elizabeth Walsh Lane.
While living and working in Winston Salem in the early 1950s, N.C. Jo met and fell in love with Robert Bob Lane. Once married, they moved to New Jersey, and then moved with Bob’s 25-year career with Digital Equipment Corporation in to Massachusetts and New Hampshire following Bob’s 25-year career at Digital Equipment Corporation.
Jo was a devoted wife, always at Bob’s side, whether on foreign or domestic business trips, traveling the countryside collecting antique furniture and dishware, or cheering him on courtside at a tennis match. She was a loving mother and grandmother, creating special bonds with each of her children and grandchildren, and opening her summer home for all the family to share.
For 37 years, Jo and Bob After a short time in La Jolla, Ca., Bob retired, andlived between Sanibel Island and Sagamore Beach.Jo was always at his side whether on business trips, traveling the world, or a simple trip to Bailey’s for donuts. In those homes, Jo’sJo’s southern charm, warmth, kindness and generous hospitality to family and friends was something to behold.
