James W. Bell, age 78, passed away at Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers, Florida on March 22 after a valiant fight with heart disease. Jim was born in Ithaca, NY and graduated from Ithaca High School. He spent 8 years in the US Navy culminating in a year in Viet Nam. Jim spent his career in college chemistry departments as an Instrumentation Engineer, first at Cornell University, then the University of Hawaii, then Hampton Sidney College in Virginia and finally retiring from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. Before his illness, Jim loved in the following order, family, friends, boating, fishing and shooting skeet and trap. He enjoyed a number of cruises with Alaska being his favorite.
Jim leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ann, his sister and brother-in-law Pamela and Howard Loveless, his nephew and family, Chris, Cathy, Matt and Kyle Honness. Jim is also survived by Dick and Karen Mason and their family.
Jim was predeceased by his mother, Helen, first wife Sandy Bell, brother Dick Bell and many friends.
