James V. Baldwin passed away August 20, 2020, while at home under Hope Hospice care. Jim's death was the result of liver cancer found only a few days before his death. He died two weeks after his 78th birthday.
Jim retired to Ft. Myers in 2000 to follow his hobby of fly-fishing. He had been a member of the Sanibel Island Fly-Fishers. He pursued the sport for over 35 years, traveling the world, and tying his own flies.
He enjoyed sports cars, driving both on tracks and in rallies. A woodcraftsman, he made furniture for family and friends and was offered a contract by FAO Schwartz for his wood toys. He held two patents for expansion joints.
Before his retirement, he served Foster Wheeler International as Executive Vice-President of Real Estate. He received his education in civil engineering at night from Newark College of Engineering, Newark, NJ.
Born and raised in Irvington, New Jersey, the family lived in Verona, NJ, Port Huron, Michigan, Valencia, Venezuela, Chester, New Jersey, Willmington, Delaware, and Rigelsville, Pennsylvania.
He did volunteer work with VOICE, and Habitat for Humanity. He kept in touch with his classmates from St. Paul's Catholic School, and took an active interest in the monitoring program at his secondary school, Irvington High School.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, their son, Michael, their older son, James, and four grandsons: Shane with the US Coast Guard, Liam, Braedon, and Kiernan.
He had traveled the world and by his own admission, had nothing left on his bucket list. He had two regrets: that he had not parachuted from a plane, and he had not been given the opportunity to share his time and experiences with his grandchildren. He would like it if anyone is inclined to donate to a cause, do something with your family with him in mind.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the Church of the Resurrection.
The family receives mail at 16970 San Carlos Blvd., Suite 160, Ft. Myers, 33908.
