Frederick Seward Erdman Jr.

Born April 16,1934 in Istanbul, Turkey to the late Frederick Seward and Mary Nicol Erdman.

Survived by his wife, Sandy; sons, Robert (Julie), their children Amanda and Adam; Thomas (fiancé Laurie), their children Samuel, Saxon, Thomas, Jack, Will, Grace and Singer; and Stephen (Mary), and their son Harris; sister, Betsy (Horace) Mann; stepdaughter, Terri Rits and her daughter Ashley; and one niece and eight nephews.

Also survived by his former wife, Janet Anderson (the mother of his sons); stepdaughters, Julie (Tom) Rae, Shelly Strachan, Lisa (Bob) Dreste, Ann Strachan and their six children.

Preceded in death by his former wife, Betty Erdman; sisters, Barbara Blais/Grohowski, Carol Merkle and Connie Feissner.

Fred grew up in Ithaca NY. He attended Cornell University, where he rowed crew and graduated in 1956. He graduated from Cornell Medical College - New York Hospital (MD) in 1960. He did his residency in Radiology at New York Hospital and was a partner in IDE Radiology, working in several hospitals in the Rochester, NY area.

Fred served two years, as a Captain, in the Air Force at Castle AFB in California.

He enjoyed sailing his catamaran at the Canandaigua Yacht Club (CYC), skiing, golf and tennis. Fred was an avid member of the Shark fleet at the CYC and cherished competing in the weekly races and national regattas, often as a top contender. Fred also loved to travel and explore other cultures, visiting many destinations including US national parks, Europe, the Middle East and sailing in the Caribbean.

He was a member of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church (Naples, FL) and First Congregational Church (Canandaigua, NY).

A service will be held at First Congregational Church of Canandaigua, NY on Saturday, February 1st, at 11 a.m., with a lunch reception immediately following at the church.
