Edward was born on Armistice Day (Veteran’s Day) November 11, 1933 in Peekskill, New York to Edward Michael Burchetta Sr. and Eva Heyd. He would have been 89 this year.
Ed (as he was called) attended Peekskill High School and left in his senior year to join the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a patriot, loved our country and served honorably from 1952-1956.
Upon returning home from military service Ed met and married his wife of 65 years, Catherine Tarantino, in May 1957. The same year he began his apprenticeship in Local 501 IBEW and became a journeyman electrician for which he recently received his 65 year membership service award. Ed was also a member of the American Legion Post 90
Ed loved pheasant and deer hunting as well as fishing and gardening. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the Sunday and Holiday gatherings. He enjoyed swimming and made sure all of his children and grandchildren could swim. He had a vast knowledge of American and World History to share whenever he could.
Ed was a caring, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Burchetta; his four children: Donna (John) Mikovits, Michael (Allison) Burchetta, Thomas Burchetta, and Nancy (Michael) Darveau; his grandchildren: Melissa, Jason, Edward, Tina, Angela, Michael Jr., Robert, Matthew, and Nicholas; his great grandchildren: Maddy, Camden, Cody, Cambria, and Chase; and many nieces and nephews.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents and his only sister, Lucille.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 at 2:30 pm at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park 12777 State Road 82 Fort Myers, FL 33913.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s name can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, St. Jude’s Hospital, or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
