Dorothy Carroll Hunt of Lakewood Ranch, FL died Saturday, March 6th, 2021 following a rapid decline in health. Born April 27, 1932 to parents Dorothy I. and William F. Goedecke, she grew up in Montreal, Canada and Maplewood, NJ.
Known by Carroll, she received an Associates Degree at Centenary College for Women in Hackettstown, NJ. In 1954, she married her beloved husband, Gerard “Gerry” Hunt. They shared 47 years of marriage until his passing in 2001. They raised their 3 children in North Caldwell, NJ and summered on Long Beach Island, NJ. Carroll was a devoted wife and mother, providing endless love and support to family. She was the heart of the home, going above and beyond to raise them.
In 1978, they moved to the gulf coast of Florida. Carroll worked in women’s wear at Jacobsen’s Department Store, assisting clients as a personal shopper. In later years, as a breast cancer survivor, she volunteered with the American Cancer Society in the Ft. Myers and Sarasota FL Communities.
Her children remember her presence vividly from childhood whether near or far she loved keeping up with their lives and those of her grandchildren. Until recently, Carroll was fortunate to travel to visit family and attend graduations and weddings.
An avid sports follower, she kept current with professional sports on TV and reading the newspaper daily. Carroll resided at the Sheridan of Lakewood Ranch until her passing. There she continued to make friends and kept active with the community.
Her parents, her husband, Gerry and brother, Bill, predeceased her. Surving are children Susan (Mark) Dion, Gregory (Susan) Hunt and Dorothy (Andy) Sorensen, Grandchildren Meg (Halsey) Schreier, Christopher (Lauren) Dion, Michael Dion, Trevor Hunt, Kaleigh Hunt and McKenzie Hunt, Jack Sorensen and Maggie Sorensen, great grandchildren Brooklyn and Griffin Dion, Sister in Law Kathy Goedecke and her children.
A service will take place at 11 am on Thursday March 11, 2021, at Hodges Kiser Funeral Home with burial immediately following at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens. Carroll’s former pastor from Church of the Resurrection Catholic church, Rev. Msgr. Stephen McNamara will officiate.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a Celebration of Life with family and friends will be planned at a later date.
The family wants to thank the loving caring staff of the Sheridan and residents for being an integral part of her daily life for the past 2-½ years.
