born October 13, 1940 in Hancock County, Ohio, the son of Robert and Alice (Nau) Painter.
Derol graduated from Arcadia Local School in Arcadia, Ohio class of 1958 and loved
playing on the football team in high school. He was also involved in FFA, 4-H, and band.
After graduation, he continued working on the family farm and married his childhood
sweetheart, Carol Monday on August 27, 1960 and they settled in the country outside of
Findlay, Ohio. They were married for 63 years and those that knew them, would certainly
agree that their marriage was a marriage founded on the Lord Jesus Christ. Derol had a very
strong faith and loved his Lord, his wife and family, and his church!
While living in Ohio, Derol was very involved at his church, West Independence United
Methodist (formerly Evangelical United Brethren) in West Independence, Ohio and both he
and Carol were faithful choir members, and sang with the Gospel Keys Quartet for many
years. Derol worked on the farm along with managing Amoco Oil Company before moving
to Fort Myers in the fall of 1976. Soon after moving they became involved and very active
with McGregor Baptist Church where they sang in the choir for over 45 years along with
Derol serving as a deacon for many years. Upon moving to Fort Myers Derol soon began
working at Publix, where he retired and then started a pressure washing business and
continued with that for many years. He also drove the bus for Southwest Florida Christian
Academy and had fond memories of the many trips he made with athletics and the choir.
He was their greatest cheerleader!
In addition to his parents, Derol was predeceased by two brothers, Lynn and Bob. Surviving
in addition to his wife, Carol (Monday) Painter, are his daughters Darlene (Bill) Maute of Fort
Myers, Nancy (Antonio) Perez of Lehigh Acres, and Valerie (Andreas) Schmitke of Hudson,
Florida; one granddaughter, Lauren (David) Olson; and 3 great grandchildren, Hailey, Trevor,
and David James.
