Dellis H. Anderson

Dellis Hermina (McBean) Anderson, was born on March 9, 1945, in Willowfield District in St. Thomas, Jamaica and went home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2023, in Lehigh Acres, Florida, USA. She was the fifth of twelve children born to Indiana Ormsby and Wesley McBean. She was raised by Ms. Buckley in Manchioneal in Portland. She had one son, Artnel, prior to emigrating to the United States in November of 1970.

After arriving in the US, she attended nursing school and worked at the Amsterdam Nursing Home for the next 30 years. She met and married Leon Anderson in 1983 in Queens, NY, and they love to spend time travelling, vacationing in England, France, Canada and cruising on the high seas, to name a few. Their union lasted 40 years.

The couple moved to Florida in 2006 after Dellis retired from nursing and settled in Lehigh Acres. They attended First Baptist Church of Lehigh since the move. She was very active in Sunday School. Dellis’ hobbies include sewing, cooking, collecting ceramics and decorating her home.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Leon; son, Artnel; stepdaughters, Georgia and Joan; stepson, Bruce; sisters, Icilda Reid and Joyce McBean; brother, Ivan McBean and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins in Jamaica, New York, and Florida. She is preceded in death by eight siblings: Alice Jones, Florence Mendez, Clara McBean, Joslyn McBean, George McBean, Wishlem McBean, James McBean and Alga Byfield.

We give God thanks for blessing us with Dellis’ presence for these wonderful 78 years. She always looked forward to attending church services, studying the Bible and fellowshipping with others. Dellis was a kind and generous person who was thoughtful in her work and life. She always had a smile for everyone she met, made friends easily and no one was a stranger for long. She was an excellent cook. She loved to cook for everyone and invite them over to fellowship. She always had time to help others and always had a kind word.

A visitation for Dellis will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913. A graveside service will occur Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913.

A repast will follow at 1209 Robert Ave, Lehigh Acres, FL 33972.
