Vera Austin Cox, was peacefully called home to glory by her heavenly father, Jehovah God, on the evening of April 3, 2018. From her birth in Trinidad to her death in Florida, Vera nourished people around her with love, faith and music.
On October 23rd, 1932, Vera was born to Lionel and Anna Austin, on Industry Lane in Belmont
Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. She was the eldest of six children.
In her youthful years, Vera danced and sang professionally at Beryl McBernie dance theater in Trinidad. She was quite an exceptional performer, she danced for many, long hours showing how much she loved it. Growing up, Vera loved and embraced the music of her culture, known as calypso. Her favorite artists included The Mighty Sparrow, Calypso Rose, to name a few. Vera was a woman of excellence, a virtuous woman.
Vera migrated to the United States of America in 1975 and bringing her children thereafter. She was a loving mother, a faithful wife and a dedicated sister, aunt and friend to many. After many years of living in the cold winters in Brooklyn N.Y, she then retired to Florida with her husband Fitzroy, followed by a few of her children. Vera was always known to be very protective and encouraging of her children.
Vera was well known for her tasty cooking style where her meats were cut up in large pieces and her vegetables must be the largest from the supermarket. She liked only the best of what life had to offer. Her kind heart and pleasant mannerisms were well known in her community.
Vera has been a Christian all her life following in her mother Anna's footsteps and instilled it in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves behind memories that will be cherished by her children, family and friends near and far. Vera will be greatly missed by all, especially by her great granddaughter, Sarayi, who visited her daily, often falling asleep on her bosom and sharing her dollie babies with her, and everyone who knew Vera knew she loved all the little dollie babies. Vera, wife to the late Newton F. Cox is survived by her children Leary, Earl, Christopher, Brian, Deborah, Denise, Dale, Odette, Mark, Winston, Stephen, and Floyd, who is now deceased. Vera Austin will be remembered as a bright, shining light to all those whose paths she crossed. We love you dearly.
