Sylvia Loucita Brown affectionately known as Amoy, was born to George Chin and Lenora Dixon on November 16, 1929 in Palmer's Cross, Clarendon, Jamaica. She was eldest of 7 children - Myrtle affectionately called Auntie Madam, Enid affectionately called Auntie Sissy, Octavius affectionately called Uncle Squeeze Eye, Ivanhoe affectionately called Uncle Ivan, Gifford affectionately called Uncle Feel Eye and Attai.
Sylvia learned to bake from her father and made a decent living selling her baked products at the local school. She also learned dress making from her cousin Miss Kenny and became very skillful at it and made additionally income from it. She was also an excellent cook and worked part-time at her sister-in-law's restaurant in May Pen.
Sylvia met and later married Kenneth Brown in 1956 and together they raised 8 children;
Eugene(deceased), Dolton(deceased), Marcia aka Susan, Kenneth aka Junior, Everton, Brenton, Wayne and Yvonne.
In 1972 Sylvia migrated to the USA and settled with her brother Octavius in Brooklyn, New York. She completed a course in Home Health Care and worked for many years in that profession. During this time she petitioned for her children who eventually migrated and joined her in Brooklyn.
In 1997 she retired and relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she enjoyed caring for her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 2015 she suffered a stroke and eventually became bedridden. Over the years her health declined and she eventually passed away peacefully on January 4, 2023 at 6:30 a.m. at Broward Health Coral Springs.
Sylvia will be dearly missed by her remaining brothers, Gifford and Attai, 6 surviving children, her 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

A visitation for Sylvia will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at 4366 - Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 20, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317. A committal service will occur Friday, January 20, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2401 Davie Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317.
