SHAWN MICHAEL HORVATH

August 31, 1973-April 30, 2023

Shawn Michael Horvath, age 49, of Tamarac, Florida passed away on Sunday April 30th at the Woodmont Medical Center in Tamarac. Shawn graduated from Stoneman Douglas High. He attended Penn State University where he earned a master's degree in history. Shawn's academic excellence earned him a prestigious semester at Oxford and Cambridge Universities in England.

Shawn suffered from the effects of schizophrenia from the young age of five. He struggled with the most severe effects of the disease from his mid 20s until the time of his death. Regardless of his mental struggles, Shawn was always kind and considerate to anyone he met. At the time of his death, he was employed at the Regal Cinemas as a doorman where patrons remembered him for his kind words and welcoming smile.

Shawn was passionate about his Christianity, spreading kindness and the word of God at every opportunity. He was a member of the Saint Andrews Catholic parish, having served as a eucharistic minister, CCD instructor and occasionally substituting at the school. Shawn was preceded in death by his younger brother Seth Horvath.

He is survived by his dedicated mother Barbara Horvath Eisenberg of Tamarac, his father John Michael (Katherine) Horvath of Marysville PA and his half-brother Keith Horvath of England. Shawn's extended family includes his aunts and uncles Kathy (Samuel) Steckbeck, Cheryl (James) Frank (Patricia) Richard Roth, Mark (Chris) Horvath and many cousins from Pennsylvania. Shawn will be dearly missed by his lifelong friend Daniel Pacini of Florida and his loyal dog Lily. Shawn Michael will be forever in our hearts and memory.

A service will be held on June 10 at 1:00 at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 9950 NW 29th St., Coral Springs. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the McGrath residence, 10346 NW 5th Ct., Coral Springs.
