He is survived by his loving wife, Laura, as well as his siblings, Denise (Tony Lopez), Bryan, Kristina (Scott Lawson), and Kandy, along with several nieces and nephews.
Russell was born on May 28, 1951, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Russell and Catherine Carver. He grew up in San Juan and attended the University of Puerto Rico, and it was there that he was introduced to what became a lifelong passion – the sport of fencing. He represented Puerto Rico in both national and international competitions, including the 1976 Olympics, from the 1970s through to the present. He was blessed to make so many wonderful friends through the sport.
After college, Russell joined what was then the Immigration and Naturalization Service. After working in Washington, DC, he was detailed to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center as an instructor. After a couple of years, he transferred to Miami to be closer to his siblings.
In 2001, he married his wife, Laura, and they had a wonderful life together.
Russell was funny, smart, generous, and kind. In his youth, he enjoyed playing football, scuba diving, skydiving, biking, and many other activities. He loved fencing, music, reading, and talking politics, and he really loved making his wife laugh every day. He was a wonderful dad to many cats over the years. He will be missed by all who knew him.
At his request, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
