Robert was born on August 9, 1949, in Minnesota to Viola and Donald Prevost. After his early years in Quebec City, the family moved back to the States. childhood visits to Disneyland planted a lifelong affinity. He attended Seattle University and completed graduate work in Theater, Dance and Philosophy at Washington State University and the University of Oregon. Robert danced with the Pacific Northwest Ballet, then acted, directed and wrote at local theaters along the Russian River in Northern California.
In the ‘80’s his artsy background got him a job in advertising at ZCMI, the department store in Salt Lake City. In 1988 Robert returned to Seattle, where he created the voice of Eddie Bauer as copy director, and met his future wife. A vocal proponent of corporate philanthropy and volunteering, Robert led The Green Group at tree plantings, beach cleanups and tours of recycling facilities. He got the employees involved with Easter Seals’ equestrian camp for disabled children. He created an initiative for “heroes” working to preserve the environment and wildlife who received endowments and were promoted it in the Eddie Bauer catalog in seven million households.
His enthusiasm and sense of fun were contagious. At Christmas he found toys for everyone, preferably blinking headgear. Always impeccably dressed, he habitually included The Mouse on some accessory. His staff at Eddie Bauer would trade for his name in Secret Santa. One year his gift was a Mickey Mouse dressed in Bauer with Robert’s picture on his pocket watch. Another year they designed a board game called “Where’s Robert?”
Robert’s career took him to Coldwater Creek in Sandpoint Idaho, where he won more professional accolades and served on the board of the Panida Theater. He also found time to act and direct there and delivered a memorable Buffalo Bill in “Annie Get Your Gun.” Then Lori convinced him to move to Massachusetts, where he worked as creative director at an ad agency serving clients like AT&T and Fleet Bank, commuting across Boston Harbor on the ferry.
In 2001 Lori finally said yes and they were married in Santorini. They traveled to New York, California and the Caribbean for work, to Europe for fun. After ten blissful years in Laguna Beach, Robert survived septic shock and retired. He and Lori moved to Florida in 2014, where he did volunteer work for Delray Beach Playhouse. He enjoyed the water views in Fort Lauderdale, then Wilton Manors. He discovered cruising: the Rhine, the Rhone, a couple of loops around the Caribbean.
Robert loved Christmas, all animals, Pavarotti, politics, Sondheim, Lori, and Mickey Mouse, not necessarily in that order. He had multiple health challenges in later years, but he remained his active and autonomous self until the last few weeks. He’d been a regular at Holy Cross Gym and River Manor’s pool for the last four years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1750 East Oakland Park Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, February 10 at11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Lori requests that donations be made to St. Mark’s, where she and Robert received so many prayers, much love and support. Robert was cremated, according to his wishes, and his ashes will travel to Arizona with Lori at the end of March. Love never dies.
