Robert was born in Baltimore, MD on March 15, 1938, though his parents soon moved the family to what would be his childhood home, built by hand together with his father whom he deeply admired. The construction of that home and its proximity to his grandparents gave him examples of ideal manhood that he spent his life emulating and passing on.
Holding two bachelor’s degrees, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering from the Northrop Institute of Technology and Technology from the University of Houston, he was a lifelong learner. He cared deeply about his country, serving in the US Air Force in several capacities from the 1960s through the 1990s, both with ground-based missiles and aircraft maintenance. It was during his service that he met our mother, Joyce, on a blind date in New Orleans. They shared fond memories of New Orleans and a love of dixieland jazz throughout their lives together. They also enjoyed attending St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church together where the organ music brought him particular joy.
Our father loved his family deeply. He especially enjoyed passing on stories about his beloved father and grandfather. He valued their toughness and work ethic. What he never seemed to realize, though, was that all the while he too was setting an example of strength to his children. Physical pain and career setbacks never prevented him from picking himself up, dusting himself off, and getting the job done. His father and grandfather would have been so proud.
He leaves behind two children, Eric and Carla, his beloved Joyce Brosch who was always in his heart, six grandchildren, Caitlin, Austin, William, Thomas, Caroline, and Katherine, and his sister Barbara.
Funeral plans to follow at a later date.
