Robert John Adams of Fort Lauderdale and formerly Cape Cod, Massachusetts transitioned into Heaven on August 24, 2023, at age 93. He was the beloved son of Robert and Georgina (Guidice) Adams, and the beloved and devoted husband of Gloria Ann (Spadea) Adams for 72 years; also, the beloved father of two sons Robert E. Adams and William J Adams and their spouses, Annemarie (MacDonald) Adams and Deborah (Doherty) Adams, and a daughter Jeannie M. Adams; beloved grandsons, William J. Adams Jr. and fiancée Kerri Swartz and Jonathan E. Adams and spouse Coni (Saraceno) Adams and great grandchildren, William Adams, Nicholas Adams, Mia Grace Adams, Dakota Adams, and Jonathan Adams Jr. His family was his life's proudest achievement. His grand- and great- grandchildren admired their “Grampy Bob” or “Gramps” as he admired and loved them.
A native of Brockton Massachusetts, Bob was a 1948 graduate of Brockton High School where he was an exceptional athlete in basketball and baseball. After High School graduation, he enlisted into the U. S. Army’s Air Force division of the military and served his country.
As a young man, he worked his way up to a manager position at the United Shoe Machinery in Boston. He also worked in the commercial lighting business design and later owned Oxy Tech, Inc. -- a respiratory care company. Bob was an artist who designed and promoted logos for those companies, as well as his son’s businesses. Everything he touched was with precision and dedication.
Bob was a true gentleman who continued to remove his hat when entering an elevator or restaurant. He was also an excellent athlete, billiard and bocce player, and golfer who put his clubs down at age 88. Bob enjoyed the game of cribbage and, in fact, once had a 29-hand in a 3-handed game. Because the odds of this happening are 649,740-to-1, this was an extremely rare occurrence and proud moment.
He was also a great carpenter, a “Jack of all Trades” and he could fix and create just about anything.
He was the coach of the Rotary Club Little League team that won the Brockton City Championship in 1967. Quite a few of the players he coached still remember him to this day and he remembered them.
A bit of a romantic, Bob loved all the old famous singers and enjoyed singing along and dancing to the tunes of “the good old days.” He especially favored “Moonglow” the first song that he danced with his high school sweetheart, Gloria. His favorite TV shows were Ted Turner Classic Movies, Jeopardy, and Pawn Stars. Bob was both a Red Sox and a Patriots fan and he rarely missed a TV Golf Tournament. He relished reminiscing about “the old days” with his many Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents who all adored him.
Robert Adams was a man of great integrity, warmth and eternal optimism. He was creative, intelligent, kind, gentle, caring, neat and loyal to his religious beliefs, with an endearing sense of humor right up to the day he passed. “He generated a sense of calm, dignity and humanity that made everybody feel good in his presence.”
He will always be remembered for his BIG smile....so big that his beautiful hazel eyes would squint yet sparkle. He followed in his mother’s footsteps and adhered to her advice to never be negative, nor complain, avoid unkind words of others and always be humble.
Consistently cheerful and with appreciation for life and family, this one-of-a-kind gentle soul touched the hearts of all that were lucky enough to know him. Bob was a perfectionist who had an appreciation for good food, drink, and pie a-la mode. He had a robust joy for life, but most of all, LOVE.
Burial at the National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts (Otis Airforce Base) will take place on at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
