Ricardo Figueroa, son of the late Pedro Figueroa Hernandez and Luisa Serrano and brother to four siblings Pedro Jr., Ada, Judy and Edwin was born on June 25, 1954 in Newark, New Jersey.
He received his high school diploma from Uniondale High School in 1973, where he also participated in the Nurses Assistant Program between the years of 1970-1973. In 1984, he became a Licensed Cosmetologist after completing training at the Long Island Beauty School in Hempstead, NY. In 1992, he became a Licensed Practical Nurse receiving his training from the Vocational ED. Ext. Bd., in Uniondale, NY. Ricardo received his Associate of Science Degree in Nursing from Nassau Community College in NY in the year 2000.
Ricardo worked for many years as a Psychiatric Assistant/orderly, Nurses Assistant/Orderly, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Registered Nurse for many years serving at a host of hospitals including North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, Parker Jewish Geriatric Institute in New Hyde Park, Island Medical Center in Hempstead, South Nassau Community Hospital in Oceanside, NY and Hempstead General Hospital while he lived in New York.
As a result of his generous spirit and infectious personality, Ricardo was loved by many and made a host of friends everywhere he went. He was known for his intelligence, compassion for others and was considered a valuable asset to his clients, patients and fellow staff.
Ricardo had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. A lover of all the classics and oldies, Ricardo was no stranger to the stage and graced the microphone with numerous bands growing up (at the Motivation Center in Hempstead, NY), his graduation for nursing school and even at his brother Eddie’s wedding!
Nearly two decades ago, Ricardo moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he purchased his dream home and once again found his place working as a Registered Nurse at Broward Hospital. In true Ricardo fashion, he added a new trade to his repertoire: massage therapy.
A lover of mother earth and all its wondrous creatures, Ricardo had a true affinity with animals and had quite a few pets in his lifetime. To name a few, his Double Yellow Head parrot, Paco; Bombay cat, Spider, and dogs Scarlet, Sheena and Oreo.
His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his siblings; Pedro Figueroa Jr. (Evelyn) of Puerto Rico, Edwin Figueroa (Beverly) of McLeansville, North Carolina, Judy Figueroa of Puerto Rico, and Ada Figueroa (Manny) of Huntington Station NY; nieces Kimberly Figueroa (Quincy), Kelley Figueroa, Priscilla, Paola, and Anissa; and his nephews Raymond Byer, Jose Figueroa, Pedro Figueroa, Jr. and Edwin Figueroa Jr. Ricardo was preceded in death by his parents and also leaves to cherish his beloved Chihuahua, Papi Lindo.
In keeping to his wishes, Ricardo’s family chose cremation, and no services have been scheduled at this time.
