She is preceded in death by her father, Phillip Smith of Florida, her uncle Dr. Paul Smith of New York, and her uncle Mark Smith of California.
Melisa Ann Smith was born on December 5, 1982, in South Miami, Florida, to parents Jennifer Baccas Peart and Phillip Smith. She graduated from Miami Dade Community College in 2003 with an Associates of Art degree. Following college, she accepted a position as a preschool teacher in West Palm Beach and enjoyed her interaction with students and colleagues for 2 years.
She then went on to attend Boca Beauty Academy for Cosmetology for a short while before embracing her true passion of working in the medical field. Melissa became a national certified insurance and coding specialist. A position she was very good at and thoroughly enjoyed!
Melissa was passionate about enhancing the lives of others and enjoyed volunteering at her church, spending quality time with her family, friends and others who impacted her life. A loving and dedicate daughter she was her father’s primary caretaker until his passing in 2018. She will always be remembered for her fun-loving spirit, her optimistic, authentic and responsible way of being while always thinking of others along the way.
A funeral is scheduled for Melissa on December 4, 2021 at Forest Lawn and Memorial Gardens South, Davie, Florida 33317. Viewing will be at 10 AM followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 AM. Interment will immediately follow at the same location. Pastor Daniel Kyle will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Melissa’s life. The family would like to thank friends, relatives and associates for the many calls, texts, cards, flowers, condolences and other expressions of sympathy extended during this time of bereavement.
