We are sorry to learn that Maria is no longer with you. She was a dear friend to my parents, Sam and Irma. I have fond memories of many shared meals and times together. Maria was an amazingly strong and loving woman. She was an intelligent and a pioneer.

There will be a celebration today of a life well lived, well loved. May your cherished memories of Mom, Oma, Maria bring you comfort each and every day.

Suzanna, I fondly remember a delicious meal of chicken paprikash  based on your mother's recipe. Thank you for sharing all of her with all of us through your wonderful stories and these amazing photos. My deepest condolences to you and your family. For my dear friend Suzanna, her brothers Peter and Hans, and her sister Sonya -- your Mother was a true life force, an amazing woman who achieved so many things.  She touched my heart, made me laugh and embraced David and I with open arms.  Treasure your time with her.  I know she is raising a glass with her beloved husband to all of you. Maria was my cousin but she was more than that, she was my sister ever since we grew up together in Graz, Austria. As young girls we spent our school holidays at my Grandmother's place on a beautiful lake near Salzburg. We learned there to swim, to row boots, to sail with local friends and our highlight a 3 day bicycle  ride around several beautiful lakes and mountains where the film "Sound of Music" was filmed.
I understand that Maria talked about these happy summer days on the lake even in the last few weeks of her life. I am so happy I could share these adventures with her and the memories of it.
There was more than this in our lifes than this but it would take a book to tell it all. I have missed her already for a long time since we live so far apart  but she will always be in my heart.

Many in her later years knew my mother as "Oma," the doting grandmother and quiet elder. She was that, however, first and foremost she was "Maria." The rebellious girl, the quick witted intellect, the beautiful woman. She lived through the ravages of war, and knew hunger, pain and suffering, but never spoke of it. 

She loved to travel, was an avid reader and had an artist's eye.  She was a gifted photographer, gardener, an exceptional cook, and an effective manager at home and at work. She would thrive on a heated political or religious debate and would never back down.

She was also the warm hearted and sensitive mother and grandmother we all knew. She was sentimental and caring, keeping every handwritten card and every report card and school project.

My dear Mama, Oma.. Maria...I thank you for your strength, your love, your guidance.  I will miss you forever.

The time I got to spend with Maria is precious to me. She was an inspiration.

In memory of a beautiful mother who's bright light will live on in so many that loved her. My sincere prayers to the family.
