Lew was born in Saginaw, Michigan, to Alexander and Ruth (Buckley) Lash on December 26, 1933, joining his older sisters Helen and Margaret, who have both predeceased him. This began what Lew often described as the blessing of wonderful women in his life and we are assured that their loving arms were outstretched to him as he found his place in Heaven.
Lew was predeceased in 2001 by his devoted wife of 45 years, Jeanne (Russell) Lash. Together they raised four children, Dana (Kevin) Kaye, Drew Lash, Deonne Richards, and Deidre (Luis) Falcon. He loved his family dearly. Lew and Jeanne also share beloved grandchildren, Megan (Joe) Alexander, Randy DiVirgilio, Danielle Rogers, Alex (Mina) Kaye, Travis (Leanne) Falcon, and Amanda Falcon. Lew was also predeceased in 2016 by his loving wife of ten years, Carole (Evans) Lash. This union provided Lew close relationships with Carole’s children and grandchildren. Lew is also blessed with numerous adoring great grandchildren and loving cousins, nephews and nieces. He also left behind many dear friends.
Lew earned his Bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University, his Master’s degree from the University of Michigan, and his Doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University. He enjoyed satisfying careers with Consumers Power, Eastern Airlines, and Barry University.
Lew never stopped learning and never stopped teaching. His faith and devotion to God was a journey that he not only embraced, but shouted with love, “God is good!” He woke every day with joy in his heart for God, his family, and his friends. Lew has entered the promised land proudly wearing his kilt and singing, “It is well, it is well, with my soul.”
