Leslie was born in St Elizabeth, Jamaica, to Hilda and Harold Wright. He studied drafting and developed his skills in wood-working where he became actively involved in educating young people in his craft. Leslie had the opportunity to attend Oxford University to further his studies in vocational education and soon harnessed his skills in teaching woodwork. An avid educator, he taught at many of the high schools across the island of Jamaica, including Mico Teacher’s college. Just Immediately prior to leaving Jamaica for the United States in 1980, he proudly taught at Calabar, in Kingston and Manchester High schools. While in Florida, he continued his profession designing furniture and creating carpentry designs for unique spaces within homes. Among his hobbies was cricket and his love for music and playing the guitar. He is survived by eldest son Peter Wright and daughter, Lezlie Ann Broughton, nee Wright, granddaughters Christine Benjamin, nee Wright and Kemoy Russell, nee Wright with great granddaughters Isabel Cummings and Madelyn Russell, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by sons Paul Wright and Patrick Wright.
A funeral service for Leslie will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2401 Davie Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317.
