Joshua David King, age 42, lost his courageous battle against cancer on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Born on July 27, 1979, Josh grew up in Coral Springs, where he attended Maplewood Elementary and Ramblewood Middle schools. In 1997, he graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. After high school, Josh received an Associate of Science degree in Graphic Art from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
Throughout his childhood, Josh loved playing recreational sports, especially basketball. He and his neighborhood buddies often gathered at his house to shoot hoops, play ping pong or swim in the pool. The highlight of these early years was meeting Michael Jordan, his idol, when he came to play golf at Eagle Trace Golf Course. From then on, everything he wore had to be Nike, especially the athletic shoes, even as an adult.
Always a hard worker, Josh held various jobs over the course of his life, beginning as a summer camp counselor and a busboy at a Chinese restaurant. In high school, he worked as a valet at Al Hendrickson Toyota, and in college, he worked for Lanier at First Data in Coral Springs while taking afternoon and evening classes at the art institute.
After getting his degree, he landed at Bear Stearns in Boca Raton, where he worked until the 2008 economic crisis. From there, he held positions at several different companies, finally finding his calling in 2016 as a customer service representative at the UPS store in The Shoppes of Heron Lakes in Coral Springs. Josh truly enjoyed working there, and he took pride in helping customers with their various needs.
Josh was loved by everyone who knew him, but his struggle with addiction overshadowed his life, leading him to rehab and counseling, Fellowship Living in Margate, and the Unity Church of Pompano. Josh attended Unity for 10 years, where served as an usher on Sundays.
Josh is survived by his parents Karen and Bradley (stepfather) McCallum, Paul and Denise (stepmother) King, his sister Allison and Adam Marts, and nephews Bryson and Dawson. He also leaves behind his adoring aunts and uncles, Kathy and Robin Richter in Green Valley, AZ, and Cyndy and David Ross in Sheboygan, WI, his Wisconsin cousins, Angie, Jason, Levi and Breilee Keplinger, Luke Ross and son Logan, Noah Ross, and his cousins Matthew Richter in Austin, TX, and RJ Richter in Falls Church, VA.
