Rene was born into a family of nine in Montreal, Canada to Ernest and Eva on February 21, 1925. Participating in the family Roofing business at an early age permitted him to form his work ethics and knowledge of business. It was during this time he met and married the love of his life, Monique. Rather than continue in the family business, Rene chose to follow his dreams and embark on a new career in Real Estate and all the while creating a family much like the one he grew up in, welcoming their three children, Daniel, Sylvie and Jean (John) Francois.
His career in Real Estate allowed him to work with some of the great minds and people of his times, including being selected as President of the Canadian International Council of Shopping Center. In 1977, after much success as a developer in Canada and Europe and looking to the future, Rene and Monique moved to Fort Lauderdale where he continued his career as a developer establishing a successful Real Estate company in South Florida which is still active and thriving today. Soon after arriving in South Florida, Rene would discover his favorite passion, that of being a grandfather, fondly know to his grand and great grandchildren as “Grandpapa”. As much as he loved to watch his children thrive, for him there was no greater joy than to spend time with his grandchildren, whether it be on the golf course, family dinners, visiting or travelling with them in different part of the world or having them stay with him and Monique. This passion would thereafter grow to include his great Grandchildren.
Rene is preceded in death by his wife Monique of over 70 years.
He is survived by his son Daniel (Vita), daughter Sylvie (Luc), and son Jean Francois (Marlene).
Grandchildren Dr. Charles-Eric Hotte (Sean), Stephanie Melnicoff (Jack), Michael Hotte (Lindsay), Bailee Madison Hotte, Jean-Philippe Robert (Ashley), Marc-Elie Robert (Han Ran), Josephine Robert, Brittany Emery (Tim), Amanda Hotte, Courtney Hotte and Step-Grandsons Nathan Gopman (Anne), Dr. Patrick Torres and Dr. Perry Torres (Amanda).
Great-Grandchildren: Haley, Eric (with a soon to be baby girl), Jack, James, Joseph, Wyatt, Margaret, Sadie, Emma, Leo, Elia, Cashton; and Step Great-Grandchildren Aaron and Peyton with another soon to be baby.
And two incredibly special care givers and friends, Petrona and Monica.
Forged from his roots, Rene was a man who loved his family immensely. He was a devoted husband, a man of character and integrity, incredible storyteller, and an enthusiastic world traveler. He will be missed dearly, but his legacy will live on.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, November 4th at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (4595 Bayview Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308).
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation in Rene’s name to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
It can be a great comfort to a grieving person or family to hear that others thought highly of their loved one, too. If you knew and admired Joseph, be sure to let the family know by writing a few words in the "Memory" section of his obituary on the Kraeer - Fairchild Funeral Home website. www.KraeerFairchild.com
