Just learning about Joe's departure upon calling and asking for him! This is just devastating to know! Really gone too soon and will be missed by so many beyond his immediately family and friends!


I have known Joe for a long time, since I was an undergraduate student, as he serviced my cars for almost 20 years! The last time we spoke was probably in May 2021 and Joe was his good old self....always welcoming, pleasant, friendly, and when he greets you, it always seems so new because it is always genuine. Joe was an extraordinarily great guy; intelligent, caring, honest, ethical, and his capacity for leadership was far above what many could recognize - this from extensive conversations over the years with Joe! Joe was an extremely tolerant and considerate person and he always spoke so fondly about his family, especially his beloved wife Sue! Joe was so proud of his children and their accomplishments and was always quick to give me an update on his daughter who is an academic like myself.  I was always impressed by Joe's insights into things...he was a fountain of wisdom and he knew people very well. Joe believed in goodness, virtues, and Truth, and he exemplified these in his life and dealings with others. 


I will always remember Joe because he was literally 1 in a million because of his great values! His patriarchal spirit and charm extended beyond his family and his knowledge was broad beyond management and automotive technology and services.


Joe, you are now a great angel guardian for your family and friends!

I met Joe several years ago in copperhill TN. I started helping Joe on projects he had going here in tn, and became friends. He was the kinda guy you want to be. Always encouraging, and wanted the best for everyone. I was looking forward to Joe retiring here in the mtns. He is missed. God Bless his family.

Joe did quality work on our vintage Mercedes cars since 2002. We just found out of his passing, and are very saddened. Our condolences to his family.

     I first met Joe when he took over Bavaria Motors as I was a customer of the previous owner. Immediately upon our first greeting I could tell he was a real genuine , honest person. He was extremely warm  and eager to give the best advice and service and always had some added candor and humor. Over the many years Joe looked after all the cars in our family and was our favorite mechanic of all times. 
     As the years passed by , we got to know each other increasingly better. Joe was always interested in our family happenings, kids, college etc.. In the last few years , whenever I would go to Bavaria, we would spend two minutes discussing the car and Lord knows how much time discussing life and everything else. Despite being extremely busy at times Joe always had the time to be a real caring person. He was a real pearl and I enjoyed talking with him so much. Life won't be the same without Joe . He made this world a better place and he will be indelibly etched in the happy side of our minds. 
      Joe, my friend, you will be sadly missed. To Ashley and the family you have our sincere condolences. Rest well my friend , you deserve eternal peace!!.

It would be 18 years this year since I walked into Bavaria and met you, to ask about tires, and from that day onwards, everytime I had a car to fix, service, need something (Many-A-Mix), you always had a solution, a joke, and a matching sense of humour. Especially when it came to dealing with all the different vehicles and telling me a few times, "its about time you get a newer one" because I was giving you all my money by trying to keep them running just that little bit longer...... Finally succumbing to leave the Old RR (much to my kids delight) on the Forecourt in December 2017 to benefit Rex. Then you always asked me if it was any of my kids were driving them, once they had learnt to drive, because otherwise the car wouldn't leave the shop, and I couldn't delay the work needed, until the necessary was fixed .... 
Your caring, honesty, kindness and general words of wisdom, to me, my wife and three kids, your overall goodness and your true concern for their safety, and always a great pleasure to chat with, about whatever was happening, we will never forget. I can't believe in this long, we never discovered we shared the same December 25th birthday. 
You will be missed, yet, never forgotten. May everyone remember all the fun memories and know what a truly great gentleman you are. Our sincerest condolences to all. R.I.P. Joe.

Joe exemplified integrity, kindness, honesty, morality, responsibility, dependability, and humility by definition as anyone.  What a blessing it was to know Joe and have such a man demonstrate the right way to live and treat people.  Heaven is now a much better place and our society has no replacement.  We will all miss Joe.

I remember when Joe first moved to Florida some 40 years ago, he stayed with us long enough that his room came to be known as "Joe's Room". 

I know he leaves a void that will be filled by loving memories by everyone who knew him.

In the middle of the pandemic Fernando and I were thinking about getting a car. With the world in turmoil, it felt like the best escape. We narrowed our selection down to a few options and decided to reach out to the most trusted professional in the biz for his opinion: Mr. Butler. 

"Feel free to call him," Chanell had laughed, "...But be ready for the kind of response you might not be expecting." 

"Ok, ok," I replied. Pfft. I mean, we just needed his insight on two different brands and whether or not we could buy one from him.

Boy were we wrong. 

"What!? A car?! You can't get a car!" he exclaimed - and then sternly confirmed. "You need to stabilize! You need to safeguard  your finances for your family! You need to build wealth - not debt. You need to put this off another year - at least!" Fernando and I looked at each other across the dinner table where Joseph was on speaker phone between us.  An hour later when he had sucked all of 'that new car' excitement out of our brains and grounded us firmly in our shoes and knew, with certainty, that he had changed our minds - he was at last happy to end the conversation. "Well, take care of those kids! Come on down here and see us soon. Really! You can stay whenever you want -  please bring the whole gang. Call us!" We might as well have been on the phone with our own parents.

If you are lucky enough to befriend a Butler - as so many people have expressed - you are considered family. They feed you, shelter you, support you, soulfully lecture you (when you ask for it), spoil you - wow - do they love you. This is deep in Ashley, Joey and Chanell's fabric  - a beautiful way of being that they learned from their parents, Joseph and Sue. 

Even in his passing, Joseph continues to envelope his family with his radiant warmth and loyal protection. And, we know his spirit will be there for them through the joys, and challenges, of their lives ahead: For his is a love everlasting. 

I always loved my brother-in-law, Joe.
We used to play catch several times in the street at 4 Dover Road in Massapequa with Mr. B. for about an hour each time.
Joe was a fun-loving person who was enjoyable to be around.
When Eileen and I were married 50 years ago next June, the song played the most was "Candyman" requested continuously by Joe.
Joe was loved and will be missed.

Uncle Joe was the living definition of a family man. Our childhood  is filled with the sweetest memories of our families enjoying together.  It will be so hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to hug you one more time on that Sunday.  My dad also had the fondest memories working with you. He always remembers your kindness, leadership and family values and has talked about it through the years. He will deeply. miss you as he considered you his dearest friend "Mi pata Joseph". Words can not even begin to express our sorrow, our hearts our broken to have lost you. You touched the heart of all of us in one way or another. May god have you in his glory. RIP Tio Joseph.

One of my memories of your dad, actually two memories:

1). When he attended a celebration of Becky’s college graduation (August, 2010).  I had planned it at our home, the day she received her bachelor’s degree, on a Wednesday evening.  Your parents came, and I knew how hard your dad worked, but he came, even on a week night to join in on the celebration.

2). The other memory I have of your dad was the toast he gave at your wedding reception.  His expression of love for you and his family really touched me.  What an example he gave for other men in the devotion he displayed for his family.

Sue and I have been friends for over thirty years. During that time I had the pleasure of meeting Joseph. Shared several dinners with him and during those conversations at dinner and at several other casual meetings I can easily say he was nothing short of respectful, kind and so very generous. He loved Sue to the ends of the earth and anyone who loved so passionately, and give so much respect to others is someone very honorable!!! Joseph it was my pleasure getting to know you and I’m so very honored. Rest In Peace….

Just meeting Maria….at the beach…..was a total blessing… and a joyful surprise.
We became telephone friends hoping soon we would all meet and share our husbands…
Our own children’s age?…....not only that but My husband Achim would have had so much in common with Joseph, being in the auto business for years….
We are so sad not to have had the privilege of meeting such a beautiful faithful man.

I will always have the fondest memories of Joe and his infectious smile.  He was the type of man who would give the shirt off his back to help others but was most devout in his mission to care for his family, which was evident in the love he gave them.  Though shocked and saddened by his loss,  I feel honored to have been able to know him and will cherish the memories of a great man.

So many memories together.  Me, Dave & the kids quote my brother to this day.  He was very funny.  I want to talk about his work ethic.  He had 2 Newsday paper routes, while most kids had 1; he got a job assisting the local butcher, near our house, at maybe 13.  He became the owner's most valued employee.  He & Sue got married young (20?) & soon started a family.  He worked in an auto repair shop, but then had a better idea, when he noticed cars were breaking done on 95 in FL.  He got a van & business cards & started Mack the Mechanic.  Soon he needed a second van & help.  But then he had a better idea.  With the help of our parents, he bought a building & started his own auto body business, which he built up over the years, which he still owns.  He was a successful businessman &  a loving, loyal,  devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother & friend.

I know you're now with Mom, Dad, Parker & the rest of the gang.  I look forward to seeing you on the other side.

I have had the pleasure of knowing the Butler family for over twenty years.  Since we were young girls,  Ashley would always talk about her dad and how he was such an exemplary man. He showed by example what it meant to be a good father, husband, and  an overall good man. Now as adults, she would often say, “they just don’t make ‘em like my dad anymore”, it would be nearly impossible for any man to fill his shoes. He was an honorable, hardworking,  and extremely kind man. He loved his wife, Sue, more than anything, which was an inspiration for us to see.  He was a real family man who loved his children, grandchildren, and of course,  his dogs. I have watched Ashley adore and revere her father over the years, and I know that he was her rock and will continue to be her pillar of strength.  Although he is no longer physically with us, a tremendous soul such as Joseph’s is omnipresent and his memory will continue to live on eternally.

I have been trying to find the words to express our deepest condolences for the passing of Mr. Joseph Jude Butler,  who was an extraordinary man,  husband and father.   He was very dedicated to his family and worried about each and everyone of them. 
 I will always remember his wonderful smile whether it was a sharing a  meal  with his beloved wife or a celebration  with his beautiful children and grandchildren.

Joe had become a member of our very prestigious business group over the past few months. He immediately was a great asset to the group of professionals; weekly providing automotive advice.  He was very warm and personable and highly advocated others. If someone was new in business or trying to make progress, he would take them under his wing, coach them along, and help them build their business. He was very warm hearted, a great business man and will be greatly missed by all who knew home. The hearts of all in our business group sank when we heard the news and Joe's passing deeply grieved us all.

A such beautiful person, that person was you Joseph!!! My amazing regular customer, super gentleman, humble, always with great attitude. Every time I saw you at the door of my restaurant, I was ready and happy to give best service to you and your family because you were great person. I'll never forget when you said the food was excellent, and your service was great!!! I don't want believe you passed away,  you'll be always present in my mine.

Dear Joe, you left your family and this world way to soon.  Even though the  stars in heaven got brighter, our world here on earth got dimmer.  Your Mom, Dan and Godson Parker I am sure greeted you when you arrived and maybe even had Sammy Davis Jr. singing “The Candy Man” one more time for you.  My heart aches for your entire family. Mr. Butler,  I’m so grateful to have known you since ash and I were in high school. I’m still trying to figure out how you trusted two college gals to drive your brand new truck up to Tennessee :) Thank you for lending your home to host my baby shower and for the wonderful children you’ve raised who have become some of my dearest friends whom I’ve shared some amazing memories with. Because you and I share the Irish blood I won’t say goodbye but “slainte” (cheers) and I promise to always be there for Ashley … love you Butler family xoxo 

We have known Joe for many years through doing business with him starting as Mac the Mechanic. We were more than shocked to learn of his passing.  He was always willing to help and work with you if need be.  He talked often about his family and how much each and every one was special,  all in their own way.  
My husband and I knew if we had a car problem Joe would be there to repair the problem and fight for you if need be to make sure we were given the best possible deal from our warranty or insurance company. 
Joe will be missed and thought of as a person who was always  fair, considerate, knowledgeable, and just all around nice guy.

You were the pillar of this family and your absence is enormous. Your generosity, humor, and love were simply endless.

My favorite part of this life I shared with you, was watching you with my children.  You were the best grandfather I could have imagined. How special that  you spent your last 5 days of life spoiling your first grandchild- Nevaeh. You will always be her hero. 

 My children ADORE you and always will. I know you’ll watch over my 3 children as their fiercely protective guardian Angel.
