Ivy was born to Allan and Effie Rowe in St. John’s, Newfoundland on August 26, 1932. She was the first of five siblings. She married David E Stockton, a USAF Officer, in 1955 and became a US Citizen in 1961.
Ivy was a passionate person and took on life with gusto. She was very proud of being a part of the US Military and was especially proud that 4 of her 5 sons served honorably in the USAF. The military life afforded Ivy and her family to travel throughout Latin America and much of the United States. This exposure also garnered her lifelong friendships and to appreciate the sacrifices of military families.
Ivy loved to entertain and be entertained. No one ever turned down an invitation to a dinner or party from Ivy. She enjoyed reading, watching golf and was an avid card player. She took on anyone who dared challenge her in the game of bridge.
Ivy passed on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, peacefully, in her sleep, after a short battle with liver cancer. She had five sons; Rex Stockton, David Stockton, Gilbert Stockton, Douglas Stockton, and Gordon Stockton. She is pre-deceased by her second husband, Michael Alba and her two sons - Douglas and Rex – December 2007, June 1987 and March 2022, respectively. She is survived by her brother Robert Rowe and her remaining sons David, Gilbert, and Gordon.
Ivy will be cremated and later interred at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, St John’s, Newfoundland. A celebration of her life will be held in St. John’s, Newfoundland at a later date. Please, no cards, flowers, etc. The family just asks that as you think of Ivy, to remember her as a fun-loving gregarious person who, it the end, would “…loudly proclaim, Wow, what a ride!”
