Helen Edna Schaefer
January 3, 1924 - October 18, 2019
Helen Edna Schaefer was born on January 3,1924 in Brooklyn, New York
to parents George Miller and Jennie Fellows Miller. She married Joseph
Edward Schaefer on May 9, 1946 who later became a Congressional
Medal of Honor recipient in World War II. She graduated from High
School in Brooklyn, New York. She worked for the Bishop at the
Archdiocese of Newark for 20 years plus and retired from there. She was
the President of the Columbiettes at St. Casimir Church in Newark, New
Jersey where she resided for most of her life. She was very involved in her
church and sponsored at least 2 seminarians. She enjoyed her time at the
Senior Center, also in Newark, New Jersey before moving to Boynton
Beach, Florida where she resided at the time of her passing into the loving
arms of Jesus.
Helen leaves behind 4 children; Joseph Schaefer and his wife, Georgine;
Ronald Schaefer and his wife, Kathy; Margaretanne Fineo and her
husband, Steve; and Deborah Herod and her husband Alan. She was also
a fond step-mother to Raymond Schaefer and his wife Minnie.
She also leaves 6 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was also a devoted member of the VFW Hall and it was her joy and
passion to be part of every parade.
Helen was well loved by many and she will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 7th at 9:45 am at
St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Hauppauge, New York.
There will also be a mass in her honor on Saturday, November 9th at 5:00
pm at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Newark, New Jersey.
