Gregory L Powell

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at https://WWW.BRGreg was born in Chicago, Ill. He was the son of the late Mary Franklin Powell and Johnnie Powell.

Greg moved to Columbia SC in the late 60’s with his aunt and Uncle John and Essie Franklin.

Greg graduated from CA Johnson High School and Midland Technical College, Columbia SC. He completed a program at The College of Charleston in Charleston SC to be a Teacher Specialist in Special Education. Greg worked for SC Mental Health in Goose Creek SC where he operated the first Halfway house for men with Mental Illness.

He later worked for Rhodes Furniture in Columbia, SC and later continued his career as a Store Manager at Rooms To Go Furniture store in Fort Lauderdale, Fl., where he retired.

Greg is survived by his sons Gregory L II (Genera) and Kevin L Powell. Siblings Rosemary Smith, Georgia Byrd, Earl Walker and James Walker all of Chicago Ill. Three grandchildren Justin Powell-Dahouas, Jeaa and Ke’Vani Powell. His mother and father- in- law Cynthia and Moses Taylor. His sister-in-laws, Yvonne Keitt, Sylvia Hanna (Marion) and Christine Taylor all of Columbia, SC. He was predeceased by a granddaughter Mona’ Sonnier Powell.

A memorial service will be held for Greg at a later date in Chicago, Ill.
