Gary Lee Annis passed from this life to the “Great Beyond” on January 9, 2024 – after a lengthy battle with multiple health issues. He was born in Aurora, Illinois on September 10, 1944. He has a daughter, Dawn and son, Geoff – 4 grandchildren, and very recently a new Great granddaughter. He was very active in Civic clubs most of his adult life. It gave him much pleasure to help people who were “less fortunate” than him, and in prayers, he asked that God would help him always be mindful of the needs of others. Some of the Civic clubs he participated in: The Lions Club (President and Treasurer) and was their Leader Dog Chairman. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge, & Jaycees. In his life as a young adult, he enjoyed playing the marimba. He enjoyed being a Lifeguard during college at Aurora University, and he was instrumental in developing their school dances and the soccer team and getting the school yearbook printed in color. He graduated with an accounting degree. In the Army during the Vietnam Era, he attended Infantry Officer Candidate School in Benning, Georgia and became a 1st Lieutenant / Finance Officer. He held a top-secret clearance with the Atomic Energy Commission. He worked for several big-name accounting firms. He was a Boy Scout leader with his son, and he coached Little League Soccer. He established his own accounting practice in Paris, Texas with a focus on income taxes. He worked for the Small Business Development Center at Paris Junior College. He had his own accounting practice in Leander, Texas for 20 years before moving to Sherman where he continued to help his clients with their taxes. Some of his interests included fishing with his dad, hunting, and skeet shooting. He was active in the Paris Community Theater. He also loved Thursday Poker Night with his friends at the Renaissance. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Annis, his daughter Dawn and his son, Geoff and Cynthia’s 2 children, Michelle and Chance, his sister Mary Jo Larson and her son, Joshua.
