Elva Cowart McDonough passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2018 at the age of 93. Born Elva Genevieve Richards on February 20, 1925, she is survived by her two loving daughters Sandra (Martyn) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Sherry (Steve) of La Habra, California. Elva was predeceased by her beloved husband Cecil Cowart in 1974, Sherry and Sandra’s dearly missed father. She remarried in 1975 to Jack McDonough, and they made their home first in Memphis, Tennessee and then in Jacksonville, Florida until Jack’s passing in 2011 when Elva moved to Fort Lauderdale to live with Sandra. Always having a head for numbers, Elva worked as a bookkeeper at Episcopal School in Jacksonville. She and Jack loved traveling, especially to the mountains, and they really enjoyed riding bicycles, proudly taking part in the Jacksonville Bike MS to fundraise for Multiple Sclerosis research and services. Elva will be remembered for her sharp mind, her kind and gentle nature, her wonderful baking, and her love of animals, especially little dogs. She leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Todd, John, Kacey, Carrie, Brandon, and Blake, and many great-grandchildren. A graveside memorial service will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery on Sunday December 9, 2018 at 11 am.
