David Rathbun, 75, died of pancreatic cancer on June, 17, 2021, at Holy Cross Hospital. He was born January 17, 1946, in Noank, Connecticut, the son of Elihu Rathbun and Evelyn (Nolan) Rathbun.
David graduated from Stranahan High School, class of 1964. He headed the school’s print shop group and received a certificate in Graphic Arts. He joined the Air Force in 1965. There he was a medical assistant and dental assistant. He became certified in Science and Technology of Automatic Transmission from the University of Texas. He continued his transmission training in 1969. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1971. He worked as an auto mechanic at Mac’s Service Station. He opened his own shop, David’s Automotive in 1978 and ran it until 1995. He was part owner and creator of Boca Burger and worked there until Kraft bought it in 2000. During his retirement, he kept busy creating woodwork as a hobby. He worked at Ace Hardware and eventually opened his own Ebay store. He sold marine products and eventually made his own product to sell in his store. He loved working this store and worked it even in his final days.
He was a hardworking, honest, funny and very generous man. He loved his wife of 52 years and his children and grandchildren with all of his heart!
Survived by his wife, Esther (Monserrat) Rathbun, their son, Javier Rathbun and his wife, Dori (Grey) Rathbun; their daughter Marlene (Rathbun) Lund and her husband Michael Lund; four granddaughters, Lindsay, Hannah, Maddie, and Mackenzie. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his older brothers William and Robert.
