Darren was born in Edmonton, Alberta and grew up just outside the city in Sherwood Park. He went to Salisbury Composite High School where he was a member of the golf and baseball teams. He spent his summer time golfing from sun up to sun down, playing ball or spending time at the lake with his family and friends. Winter brought out the fan in Darren as a die-hard Oilers supporter. Darren attended NAIT prior to beginning his career in the Oil and Gas sector which eventually saw him relocate to Nova Scotia. It was in NS that Darren met his wife and partner, Mary.
Darren resided in the golfing community of Glen Arbour where he became a fixture in the neighborhood. Always willing to lend a hand, Darren made lifelong friendships in both his professional and personal life. While golf was his passion, he enjoyed snowmobiling in the mountains, paying ball and curling in the oilfield leagues and going fishing with his buddies.
Darren’s love of adventure saw him travel the world. From family vacations with Mary and the boys, golf trips with the guys, safari and shark cage diving in Africa or eating in the square while watching tango dancers in Argentina, he did it all. The last years of Darren’s life saw his health decline and these adventures were limited. It seems somehow fitting that Darren was on one last journey, docked in Aruba, when he passed.
Darren is survived by his wife Mary Wolfe, step-sons, Duncan and John Munroe, parents Doug and Maxine (Wirun) Kolodychuk, sister Janette (Kevin) Cannan, nieces Alyssa, Jessica and Madison.
A celebration of Darren’s life will be held in the Arbour Room at Glen Arbour Golf Course on December 15 at 3pm. Please note that Darren hated wearing a jacket or tie and would not have liked it if others were uncomfortable on his behalf.
We were truly blessed to have such a kind soul in our lives.
Donations in Darren’s memory can be made to Feed Nova Scotia or Pheonix House in Halifax.
It can be a great comfort to a grieving person or family to hear that others thought highly of their loved one, too. If you knew and admired Darren, be sure to let the family know by writing a few words in the "Memory" section of his obituary on the Kraeer - Fairchild Funeral Home website. www.KraeerFairchild.com
