It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Dagmar Curiel, age 51, of Fort Lauderdale, passed away on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, after tragically being struck by a drunk driver while walking alongside the road in Austin, Texas.
Dagmar was born on May 13th, 1973, to Juan Manuel Curiel and Nancy Curiel in Havana, Cuba. When Dagmar was 6 years old, Juan and Nancy decided to flee communism in Cuba relocating the family to San Jose, Costa Rica.
In July of 1983, the family moved to Miami, FL in pursuit of the “American Dream”. Dagmar attended elementary, middle, and high school in Miami, FL. After high school, Dagmar went on to work alongside his father Juan, at a local meat market (bodega) as a butcher. In 1992, the family was displaced by Hurricane Andrew and Juan and Nancy purchased their first home in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
At the age of 20 years old, Dagmar became a father to his first child, when daughter Emelyna was born on October 26, 1993. With the responsibility of becoming a father, he dedicated his time to many business ventures including a produce farm in Homestead, FL. In the years to follow, Dagmar owned and operated a pool repair company named “Coco Pools” with his father Juan, even sponsoring his younger brother, Edmar’s Little League Baseball team in 1995.
After closing the family business, Dagmar graduated as a Certified Public Accountant from Atlantic Technical College, kickstarting his career with Fairfield Inn Resorts & Club Wyndham Santa Barbara Resorts in Pompano Beach where he worked happily for many years until 2003, when he and his father started a tow truck business.
On November 28, 2007, Dagmar’s son Noah was born, making his world complete.
Dagmar was known to live life on the edge and marched to the beat of his own drum. He was a fantastic cook and loved to dance salsa.
Dagmar was predeceased by Juan and Nancy Curiel. He is survived by brothers, Omar and Edmar, sister, Mara, daughter, Emelyna, son Noah, and grandsons Ryan, Randy Jr., and Anthony. He also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends in Cuba and throughout the U.S.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from Noon - 2:00 at the KRAEER - FAIRCHILD FUNERAL HOME 4061 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. The family wishes to thank everyone for the love and support you have shown us through this painfully difficult time.
