Alan Adams, 81 years old, of The Villages Fla, passed away on March 8, 2021 from Covid-19. Born in Albany New York to Donald and Jean Adams on July 12, 1939, Alan graduated from Albany High School in 1956. He went on to study at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam where he graduated in 1961. He earned his Master’s degree from Illinois Wesleyan in 1966.
Alan was predeceased by his second wife, Avis, in 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Scott (Paul), his son, Gregory, and his granddaughter, Ashley Scott Wilson (Robert).
After studying in Illinois, Alan moved to Evansville, Indiana, where he served as the Executive Director of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a national fraternity for men in music. He himself was a vocalist and choral conductor of some accomplishment, directing sacred music for church, academic, and professional choirs. He was a Rotarian and a member of the Elks.
Over the last decades of his career, he worked for private higher education institutions as an administrator, including the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins, Boston Conservatory of Music, Fontbonne College (now Fontbonne University), and Blackburn College. While working at Fontbonne, he adopted St. Louis as his temporary home, where he developed a love of baseball and adopted the Cardinals as his home team.
There will be a private interment. His family insists on donations to the Center for Disease Control Foundation in lieu of flowers.
