Mrs. Verna King

She was born on January 20, 1940 in Rainy River, Ontario to Wilfred and Arvilla Desserre. She grew up in on the family farm in Pinewood, ON. She worked at the Stratton Café and the saw mill at foot falls as a young woman. She was united in marriage to Melvin King on January 31, 1958. Together they settled in Atikokan to start the family. They returned to the family farm in Pinewood for several years before returning to Atikokan once again when Melvin was hired at the mine. They loved to travel and took a trip to British Columbia every year. Verna loved her role as wife and mother. She was a kind, generous woman who would help in any way possible. She loved to garden, sewing and was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church.

She leaves behind her son Darren King; daughter Patty McMillan; grandchildren Chad and Tyler McMillan, Shawn and Sherri King and Melissa and Kyle Bates; numerous great grandchildren; brother Ken (Laverne) Desserre ; sister Bonnie Wolframe and numerous nieces and nephews.

Verna was predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Arvilla; husband Melvin; brother Morris Desserre; daughter Cathy Bates and son Rick King.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
