Rory Bird (Ozaawaabineshi)

On Thursday October 14, 2021, Rory Bird (Ozaawaabineshi) left the physical world. He leaves behind his loving wife Daniella and his children Dacotah, Lincoln, Cassius, and Brooklyn. Rory also leaves behind his parents Sharon (Foy) and Dave Harney as well his siblings Amber and Richard Bird and Birch Johnson, Grandparents Richard and Rosie Bird, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is predeceased by his father William (Billy) Bird and his sister Crystal Johnson.

Knowing Rory Bird and his loving heart was one of the greatest blessings that we have received as he touched our lives in such a beautiful way.

Rory was an adoring father and such a loving, respectful, caring husband, friend, son, and brother. His family meant more to him than anything. Rory's spirit was so captivating, warm, and endearing. Throughout his life the friendships he would form would be lifelong and mean a lot to him. He would help anyone in need and always put others before himself. He would often surprise his loved ones with flowers to brighten their day because he worked very hard at cultivating loving relationships with those around him. His laugh was so unique and contagious and will be deeply missed.

Rory loved cars and was a mechanic. He had a great love for the earth and for nature. He loved to fish and be by the water. The water was his serenity. While he spent the last several years living, traveling, and adventuring across the United States, Minnesota and the north shores of Rainy Lake in Couchiching First Nations were his home. He spoke of the land with a love so deep. Rory Bird’s passing has left us all with a piece of our heart missing but he will be forever remembered as the smiling, goofy, charming, loving man that he was.

Traditional funeral services will be carried out by Albert Hunter in Couchiching First Nation. The wake begins October 23 with the funeral to follow on October 24 at Couchiching First Nation.

Pallbearers are Aldin Foy, William Foy, George Foy, Eric Foy, Levi Foy, and Christian Overett.
