She was born on June 7, 1969 in Seine River First Nation at a homebirth, she was later taken to Fort Frances to be checked over. From there she returned to Lac La Croix First Nation where she was raised. She lived in Lac La Croix most of her life, spending a few years in Thunder Bay. She was a kind compassionate woman who was always putting others ahead of herself. She was always willing to lend an ear to anyone struggling. She was proud of her own sobriety and would support anyone attempting to walk the path with her. She enjoyed attending traditional ceremonies, Pow Wows, telling stories and spending time with family and friends.
Melba leaves behind her children Nikki Jordan-Ottertail, Leonard Ottertail, Aaron Jordan and Robbi-Jo Mendowegan; grandchildren Keisha Ottertail, Kaidian McKnight, Halle Wocknitz, Angel Woknitz and Jace Ottertail; siblings Alice Chisel, Dora Ottertail, Dorothy Jordan, Norman Jordan (Skuya), Frank Jordan and Harvey Jordan (Annette) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Helen and Frank Jordan; sister Norma; grandsons Travis and Lyle Wocknitz and niece Marilyn Geyshik-Blesi.
A traditional ceremony was held on Friday, January 10, 2019 at the home of Frank Jordan in Lac La Croix First Nation.
The pallbearers were her family and friends.
