Laurie was born June 4, 1968 in Hearst, Ontario, and later moved to Slave Lake and Killam, Alberta, before finally settling in Atikokan in 1986.
Laurie worked in her family’s business, MacLeod’s/True Value for many years, and the last four years as manager of the Quetico Inn Motel.
She was united with her soul mate and life partner Jeanne Connolly in February 5, 2005 and lived happily until her passing. Laurie loved camping, fishing, her beloved dog, Tesla, and her absolute favourite holiday, Christmas.
She loved her family and had countless friends. Laurie touched many lives; everyone loved her.
Laurie is survived by her partner Jeanne Connolly of Atikokan, son Kyle Girard of Thunder Bay, daughter Natasha Morrisette of Atikokan, father Garry (Susan) Girard, sisters Cathy (Stephen) Bazinet, Carrie (Erle) Zacharias, step-brother Paul (Sharol) Bachmeier, step-sister Jocelyn (Frank) Carobelli, niece Hannah Bazinet, nephews Matthew Bazinet and Tristan Connolly, father-in-law John Connolly, and her mémère Pauline Laurin, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends.
She was predeceased by her mother Sally Girard in 1999, her pépère Herve Laurin in 2001, great-grandmother Laura Roy in 1986 and Eleanor Girard in 2006.
A memorial service for Laurie was held on April 7 at the Atikokan Legion Hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, 289 Munro St., Thunder Bay, ON P7A 2N3.
