Jim was born on September 23, 1931 to George and Violet DuCharme. He was raised in Sleeman and Rainy River, finishing High School in Rainy River. He moved to Sioux Lookout in 1950 joining CNR. There he met Mary Shankowsky and they were married in 1956. Together they moved to Redditt, ON settling in Fort Frances in 1960; Jim retired from the CNR in Fort Frances in 1985. After retirement he worked as a carpenter helper for many years, he loved building things. In 1982 the family bought a cabin, he spent every moment he could there; he loved the solitude and the nature. He was a member of the Knox United Church, Royal Canadian Legion and was an avid curler after retirement.
He leaves behind his wife Mary; sons Christopher and wife Doreen; Douglas and wife Carol; Gregory and wife Tammy; grandchildren John (Terri), Robert (Jennifer), Daniel DuCharme (fiancé Shawna), Justine (William) Vallis, Dylan and Michael Lynn DuCharme; great grandchildren Austin Fowler, Natalie DuCharme, Keirsten and Peyten DuCharme; brother-in-law Angus MacLellan and sister-in-laws Alice DuCharme and Elsie MacBeth.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; brothers Maxwell and Lionel; sisters Elaine and Lorna; sister-in-law Barbara and Diane and brother-in-law Stanley MacBeth.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 11 am. at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 in Fort Frances, Ontario with Reverend Ralph Fluit officiating.
Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be his grandchildren John DuCharme, Robert DuCharme, Daniel DuCharme, Justine Vallis, Dylan DuCharme and Michael Lynn DuCharme.
