Betty was born in Montreal to Laura May Bulmer and John Archibald Scott on August 15, 1919. She was predeceased by her parents, three older brothers and an older sister.
Betty graduated from nursing school in 1941 and went on to practice at Montreal General until 1943 when she joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. She was stationed in Bramshot, southern England and then was transferred to the continent where she treated political prisoners.
Betty and Owen were married in September, 1946, and spent their early married years in Bourlamaque, Quebec.
In 1954 they moved to Atikokan with their three young children. Betty enjoyed and served the community through nursing, UCW, school board, swimming, the church, her beloved garden and the cabin on Eva Lake.
In May, 2007, Betty was admitted to the Extended Care Wing of the Atikokan Hospital. There she received daily visits by Owen.
Betty passed away peacefully with her family nearby and under the love and care of the staff at Extended Care. A special thanks to Dr. Van Der Loo, Wayne Smith, the wonderful nurses, aids, support staff and volunteers at Extended Care who made Betty feel welcome, nurtured and loved for the past four years.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her husband Owen, her three children Stuart, Barb and Jim, their spouses Nancy and Laurie and her six grandchildren Jason and Kerri, Bree and Casey, and Brodie and Colin.
A memorial service was held at Riverview United Church on Monday, February 21. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Betty’s name may be made directly to: Extended Care Wing of Atikokan General Hospital (120 Dorothy St.), Riverview United Church (Box 730, Atikokan, ON P0T 1C0), or a charity of your choice.
