Duane was born on January 19, 1970 in Fort Frances, ON to Arthur and Beatrice Ottertail. He lived in Lac La Croix First Nation most of his life working as a fishing guide. He loved to be surrounded by people, especially family. He enjoyed the large family cook outs, playing floor hockey, hunting and was a huge Elvis fan. Despite his own personal struggles he was always willing to help others.
He leaves behind his father Arthur; siblings Lisa Whitefish, Michael Ottertail, Jason Kelly Ottertail (Doreen Smith), Jackie Ottertail (Derek Geyshick), Cindy Ottertail and Desmond Ottertail as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Duane also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he thought of as children.
Duane was predeceased by his mother Beatrice; grandparents Bob and Annie Ottertail and Doris and John Whitefish; uncles Ray and Robert Ottertail and Thomas and James Whitefish and sister Mary.
A traditional ceremony was held in Lac La Croix First Nation on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 with Elder Tommy Councillor and Danny Geyshick officiating.
The pallbearers were his family and friends.
