Donald Angus

Don was born in LaVallee on December 4, 1939 and raised in Burriss. He lived his entire life in the Rainy River District. He married the love of his life, Sharon Avis, on July 8, 1961, and they were happily married for 57 years.

After high school, Don began his career at O&M Paper Mill. He continued working there in various positions and retired as Paper Mill Superintendent in 1997. Through the years, he met many great co-workers and developed lifelong friendships. While working at the mill, he purchased and ran Birch Point Camp with Sharon and his parents for a number of years. Living on the lake was a dream come true when Don and Sharon built a home on Rocky Inlet where they lived for 26 years. After moving to town, they built a cabin in the North Arm of Rainy Lake, spending wonderful times with their family and friends.

Upon retirement, Don and Sharon were lucky enough to enjoy 20 years of travelling to different destinations. They became “Winter Texans,” spending lots of time together and making lasting friendships.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; children, Wayne (Cheryl), Lisa (Rob) Armstrong, Mark (Jenny), and John (Lisa); grandchildren, Jeff (Rhianna), Jason, Joey, Justin, Alyssa, Amanda (Dan), Austin, and Tanner; and great-grandsons, Bentley and Nixon. He is also survived by his sister Merle Miller-Warner; in-laws, Linda and Len Hill, and Bev Angus, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by his parents, Derward and Helma Angus; father-and-mother-in-law, Sid Avis and wife Virginia; step-father-in-law, John Reid; sister, Marion and husband Bill Reese; brother, Larry; and brothers-in-law Bill Miller, Alan Warner, and Ted and wife Connie Avis.

Don was a good man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, as well as a loyal, dedicated employee, who was very well respected by many. He will truly be missed.
